Facebook occasionally offers up a few real gems

History books never made it clear that you just… keep going to work during a coup.

Recommendation to read: a colleague’s beautifully written essay about coping with a lived rare side effect of a treatment, and the distrust and pain of never reaching the place of certainty again - even if it never was there.

been on social media for close to two decades now have to say I haven’t heard anything nearly as ridiculous in recent years than the view that by tuning out or in any way moderating one’s consumption of news one is somehow enabling authoritarianism or allowing it to flourish

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

I'll reiterate that I don't think the various trolls/bots/chuds here understand how comprehensive the Bluesky block function is here. It's so good that it actually encourages "don't engage, just block": nothing's left over after the block happens so there's no point engaging at all. Just brilliant.

The less effectively a person can communicate emotional suffering in language, the more powerful their non-verbal messages tend to be. - Nancy McWilliams

The years of early childhood are an apprenticeship in what it means to be human. And your baby wants nothing more than to be like YOU. (Thread 🧵)

This is so spot-on it’s scary.

Love this. Ego must let go of the will to control everything, step back, and learn to enjoy the ride. Funnily, quite often, others around a person are well aware of the part of the person that remains unconscious and unacknowledged to the person themselves. So many examples of that here in So Me.

A person’s sense of self is intimately tied to being experienced as vital and alive by another human being…Even the healthiest of us needs some ongoing, continual input or nourishment to adequately maintain our sense of self. - Sheldon Bach

found a coat I haven't worn since my daughter was four and the pockets are filled with pebbles & leaves & playmobil people and I'm gonna need a minute

things to ask therapists who say they’ve never encountered transference or countertransference: • your work always proceed smoothly and without hindrance? • ever thought about a customer between sessions? • always gotten paid in full and on time? • think words are the only way we communicate?

“The major change mechanism in psychotherapy is not cognitive insight, it’s the ability to have an emotionally laden conversation with another human being and to make emotional connections.” - Allan Schore

"I hope we can see that we are all increasingly harmed by a new, neuronormative form of capitalist domination... the neurological requirements of work in post-Fordist era are tighter than anything we’ve ever seen." @drrobertchapman.bsky.social [Jan 2024] www.psychiatrymargins.com/p/a-material...

All jokes aside it's really fucked up to see so many people on here celebrating murder. No one here is the judge of who deserves to live or die. That's the job of the AI algorithm the insurance company designed to maximise profits on your health and no one else

🧵 1/2 “Techniques for facilitating the development of the therapeutic alliance include: 1) Consistent empathic and affective attunement - paying attention to and inquiring about what the patient is feeling in the here and now 2) Clearly defining/negotiating therapist and patient roles…”

Students of therapy will hear “it’s the relationship” a thousand times but won’t hear how to understand the relationship even once.

An unsolicited supervisory tone is generally unwelcome in collegial conversations. If you’re not on the supervisory clock, get off the soapbox.

thinking of hope as a set of existential headlights that turn on when we’re driving in the dark

𝘗𝘴𝘺𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘭. “When people are able to face their emotions here in therapy, they find themselves able to handle things ‘out there’ without having to ‘do’ anything in particular.” - Nat Kuhn

Bluesky tip for newbies: Bluesky has no real algorithm. Likes here do nothing but show the poster that you enjoyed their content. That kindness is always going to be appreciated by creators, but if you want to help to boost something here, you have to repost it so others see it. 🙂

Deep reflection on his 2nd life as a stranger to himself by Paul Sagar ”I am struck with the sense that somebody did die that day in early June. I share his name, his legal details, his date of birth, and even his memories. Other people seem to think that I am him. But I am increasingly unsure.”

Clarifying summary by @awaisaftab.bsky.social of psychiatric diagnosis as ”a way to group and treat presentations with similar symptoms, even though the relevant causes are not fully understood and are likely different in different people”. From there, a proper a case formulation should take over.

Speaking of the utterly broken Twitter search (RIP), here are instructions for searching on Bluesky. It requires a little more from you, but once you know the prefixes, I've found the search works just fine. bsky.social/about/blog/0...

I’m seeing a narrative taking shape about ‘liberals leaving X’. Just to be absolutely clear, people are leaving X because: ▪️The information shared on X cannot be trusted. ▪️The accounts on X cannot be verified. ▪️The algorithm cannot be countered. ▪️The user experience will not be fixed.

X = ex Also, hallo!
