watch it when it's done and you will be able to enjoy both the zero context unhinged commentary AND the show

this was me a week ago but now i get to be one of the people saying absolutely wild shit that is nonetheless a completely accurate description of what happens in the show bsky.app/profile/left...

there are only two normal ways to watch any “franchise” composed of multiple series: - release order - whatever looks cool to you first

this post made me get out of bed for the bit

it was originally designed as a jrpg by level-5 (studio behind professor layton, inazuma eleven, yo-kai watch etc) and you can extremely tell both in terms of the weird story structure and the designs

age is bad in ways that SHOULD be funny but are mostly just extremely boring

the show spends more time on an arc about don boyage, the world's stupidest mafia boss, than it does with fake lalah
comment in response to post
the gundam boy does decide to do a genocide about it, but all that's really amounted to so far is some racist rants about how his enemies aren't human
comment in response to post
it has a bit where a lalah-type story happens, but it's infinitely dumber and the girl has less agency than any woman in all of gundam and we never see the gundam boy interact with her outside of montages of them frolicking together

lmao absolutely not. it's like if f91 was just as weirdly made and paced but had absolutely nothing going on under the hood

it's like a cargo cult anime where they vaguely know the shape this sort of show should take but none of them have ever seen one and are just making their best guess as to what they should fill it out with
comment in response to post
imo the side arcs have the exact same issues, they just don't even have a core concept worth exploring

they forgot to put a show in the show!!! every episode slides perfectly off my brain, i don't know if there's ever been anything else bad in this specific way. it's kind of impressive

at one point the characters look at a wall of photographs and say "wow that was fun! i sure did like getting to do things with you and develop a relationship with you over time!" for a bunch of stuff we never got to see
comment in response to post
the very next episode starts by resolving a cliffhanger from an episode that never got made, skips forward 16 months in a single montage and goes immediately to the reveal, which obviously doesn't hit at all because we have spent no time whatsoever with the characters

kind of a stock setup for a show, but there's a lot of room to have fun with that

the show sets up a dynamic where the gundam boy and his rival are attending school together, and the rival boy is there as a spy for the enemy army, so he's doing spy missions while the gundam boy stops him without knowing it's his friend who's the pilot

absolutely, it all works so well. i would love to have gotten more lancerow or pala sys but the show we got is still fantastic

the moon will always be there is one of those lines that just lives in my brain forever. it'll always be there, kinda like the moon great show, one of my favorite gundams. those last episodes when you can tell they've been canceled have an energy you can't really get anywhere else
