What’s more, Hashem approves of said pockets!

in tears at this one

I was just thinking how the crash out over Mamdani’s win is establishment types and institutions confronting the fact that he didn’t need them, and how those same types really neatly overlap with the one demanding we throw trans people under the bus

Just a reminder of who Thom Tillis is: In 2013, as N.C. House Speaker, he passed a massive voter suppression law that was struck down because it targeted Black voters "with almost surgical precision.” In the Senate he voted against the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Right Act.

I’d be fascinated to know if they have considered some of this isn’t class, it’s religion (like a no to pork/shellfish isn’t just class). It also feels like raw seafood/beef=rich, and leaving aside sushi, I don’t do raw so… That said I also hate ketchup, so I am truly a mystery!

Congress started abdicating war powers in the 70s—we’d have to go back beyond any current politician’s career to get back to even just what separation of powers is supposed to mean (and that is saying a LOT given we have a gerontocracy). And then we’d still need a massive overhaul!

Someone claimed the reason for this statement is to promote my own individual achievement (It was all ME!). This totally misses the mark. This statement shows worker solidarity & rejects tech that steals labor (esp from the Global South), heats the climate, reproduces racism & causes env injustices

I heard @ezraklein.bsky.social say Mamdani is "motivated by his sympathies more than his resentments" and I think that's key to his brand of identity politics

Well I'm Jewish I don't agree with @ericswalwell.bsky.social's decision to be a fucking liar, and I definitely trust Zohran Mamdani more than I trust Eric Swalwell's defamatory ass

We should all be disgusted by the flood of anti-Muslim remarks spewed in the aftermath of Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the NYC mayoral primary — some blatant, others latent. Shame on the members of Congress who have engaged in such bigotry and anyone who doesn’t challenge it.

Imagine if the Democratic Party spent as much time and energy fighting against this as they do fighting against a single left-populist mayoral candidate.

The sound of the crowd in this video tells me that the effort to undermine Mamdani is happening in the same hermetically sealed circles as the reputation laundering for Cuomo and will be just as successful

Well, that’s kind of hard when it is the Democratic Party leaders saying it

[deep breath] The predictive model was EVERYTHING THEY SAID. IN PUBLIC. FOR YEARS. People whose imaginations begin and end with political theory, who see the lives of others as abstractions, had every chance to listen. Instead, you kept talking because it didn’t impact you.

Democrats have been asked to disavow Zohran more than Republicans have been asked to disavow the guy who murdered two Democrats. Says a lot about how profoundly fucked up our political and media situation is right now.

unsurprisingly, im seeing an uptick in antisemitic rhetoric on the left, a totally predictable reaction to the hideous cowardice of this tactic

My boobs got a PhD just as much as the rest of me—it pisses the internet off, but larger-than-a-C-cup folks don’t get shunted off into some sort of eye candy warehouse instead of, ya know, pursuing lives and professions in the world! (They’re also not detachable—I can’t be waif-y bc fashion demands)

I mean this was good coverage though

If you assume antisemitism of someone and go looking for evidence of it, you will always find it, or point to something not perfectly antiantisemetic. If you look for evidence of support for Jewish people, Jewish institutions, Jewish culture, you will NOT always find it.

Do y’all not see that these attempts to make Mamdani a Jew vs Muslim issue is CLASSIC white supremacy pitting minority groups against each other in order to divide us because we are very dangerous to them when we’re in community?? Are y’all for real gonna fall for that shit!?

it’s not even that there’s no antisemitism on the left! there is, there’s a reason a lot of Jews on this site stay quiet on certain things but the relentless focus on criticizing Israel as the only valid antisemitism to go after, when Nazis are running our country, is doing enormous damage

The Supreme court is really making it clear that those of us on the academic and research side of countering fascism who’ve been saying that rule of law law alone won’t stop fascism we’re always correct and everyone’s screaming at us that we were doomers and conspiracy theorists were just wrong.

To these people, it doesn’t much matter if your feelings don’t match reality (Brad Lander is not going to endorse and campaign alongside the antisemitic monster this screenshot is depicting). Anyone you’ve decided SHOULD agree with you (here Jews) who disagrees is then denounced as fake.

Here’s the thing about this. It’s not that women are inherently good, benevolent angels and men are evil trolls. It’s that women are socialized to be other-focused and men are not. There are plenty of shitty women out there, but aside from a few edge cases, women don’t get to be oblivious.

Shabbat Shalom to everyone who recognizes that the safety, freedom & thriving of Jews and Muslims are bound up together — in Israel & Palestine, across the five boroughs, and in many other beloved places.

It is incredibly gratifying to see a respected Jewish leader on national television saying what so many of us feel, calling out blatant racism and efforts to divide Jews & Muslims. This is who @bradlander.bsky.social has always been. It is so good that the world is seeing it & hearing him.

Generational change is coming: Since Zohran Mamdani won on Tuesday night, more than 1100 young people have reached out to @runforsomething.net to explore a run for local office -- one of our biggest spikes of the year yet.

Copyright is literally the only thing smaller artists have to defend themselves. It’s why we were even able to take on Ai companies for stealing our work before the bigger companies came in. If you understand how to use copyright it can be a powerful defense

If you are a health care professional and you won't wear a mask on patient request, you are shitty at your job and you should feel bad about how you treat people.

Call me old-fashioned but i don't want anyone surveiling me. I want destruction to all the states, corps and global structures that make it profitable and "who cares if ____ spies on me" is at best unprincipled for the sake of rhetoric, at worst a plausibly deniable defense of that corp/state

Zohran Mamdani's shocked American pundits by running on a platform that provided an alternative to Trump, the Democrats catering to him (hello, Newsom), and misogynist Andrew Cuomo. his economics-first campaign stridently protected trans rights as Dems largely refuse to. me on his win @teenvogue.com

YES

Outdoor Afro tells me they received 300 applications overnight following this post! People are learning how to swim

oh boy, yes so much of white western atheism is just Look At Me Not Doing Christianity, while fully relying on Christian terms to frame the conversation see also: secularism BUT if you get into like Black free thought, things get more expansive

I remain grateful for the mnemonic, If the Naomi be Klein you’re doing just fine If the Naomi be Wolf Oh, buddy. Ooooof.
