That Idaho town hall footage is absolutely appalling. White supremacy and Nazism helps no one, not even 99% of white people. They lie and say that they are "protecting their women," and then you see how this poor woman was treated. Let's just call it like it is: They are completely inhumane.

You know that pile of old posters in your lab... Boy, have I got an idea for you...

Has anyone called Bitcoin “Dunning-Krugerrand” yet?

I wouldn't have been able to finish my undergrad degree with good grades if I didn't have accommodations where professors couldn't ding me for missing a handful of classes.

………. You do know that most of DEI hires the put on a public firing page were women Black women Who don’t stop being women just because we also happen to be Black

Imagine being so stupid that you look at an academic department of 50 people, then look at the two black people working there and go “wow they are just handing jobs them to those people.”

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing people that "censorship" means "not being able to scream slurs in other people's faces" and not "you will forbidden from conducting scientific research if you use any one of these keywords".

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

I saw guidance saying "mask up if you're somewhere where people don't have a choice about being there... pharmacies, hospitals, etc" I hate to break it, but... baristas, janitors, customer service reps, retail workers, &t... none of them have a choice about being at work either.

Rather than reject climate science like many on the right, some have followed the path laid out by environmentalist and white nationalist John Tanton, using concerns about population growth and scarce resources to rationalize their hateful agendas. (Published Oct. 2024)

Dear manager, this week, I: 1. Thought you were funny when you were mad 2. Tried hard to smile, but I felt bad 3. Laughed at a funeral 4. Wore my mind on my sleeve 5. Had a history of losing my shirt

In March 2020, as exec director of a small nonprofit, I directly helped up folks make rent, set up mutual aid, got wildly creative with budget & gamed out detailed worst-case futures. And I had to fight tooth & nail with my own panicking team who didn’t want to confront our reality. Do it anyway.

FAFO in response to people losing basic rights is not how you build a coalition. I reserve FAFO for the agents of chaos and enemies of progress specifically now. Everyone else, welcome to the resistance.

I appreciate this response from Ed Yong on why he requests that people mask at his events. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

I think it’s not helpful to repeat claims that the administration is working on eliminating “DEIA” as though it’s some kind of corporate strategy; just say explicitly that they’re trying to eliminate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and explain how.

And these 2 PhD students are ready to go, the 3 other scientists are cranking and we love them 🥺♥️, but we NEED more support! From volunteers, to org support, we’re calling on the scientific community! JOIN US! SEE YOU IN DC Y’ALL 🫡 @standupforscience.bsky.social

FEDERAL RESEARCH LAB SCIENTIST IN 1965: After five years and seventy million dollars we have invented a new type of plastic that prevents communists from being able to climb ladders too fast FEDERAL RESEARCH LAB SCIENTIST IN 2025: My cure for cancer was shelved because it might benefit Hispanics

This is a shamefully racist movement that should be resisted by every person of good will. @brian-goldstone.bsky.social’s forthcoming book is incredible and it’s honestly the archive’s loss (and the nation’s). www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/a...

The attacks on DEI are a pretext for a much more radical agenda of reversing the gains of the civil rights movement, an objective the Trump administration is pursuing with zeal. A Great Resegregation. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

I’ve got a fever, and the only cure is MORE CHISME

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

Multiple reports of drivers doing spontaneous sieg heil salutes at protesters today, including in one case from someone I know personally. What is being normalized is monstrous and dangerous; every day we step closer to the abyss

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

I truly think people don’t realize how many universities and colleges — especially public ones — may shut down if restrictions on and withholding of federal funding persists for even one presidency We are facing the demolition of American higher education

People are getting a real life introduction to how dangerous Klansman are to democracy and stability. Could have figured this out by reading books and listening to Black people but here we are.

It's strikingly similar to the white supremacy campaigns in Reconstruction North Carolina, as described by Gregory Downs in Declarations of Independence (p.192), where Black employment in government jobs was framed as prima facie evidence of anti-white discrimination.

if you look at a bad thing that happened and assume, evidence-free, that it's because a Black person got a job they shouldn't have, you're not a "DEI skeptic," you're a dumb gutter racist

A Very Specific Psychologist™️ is probably screaming, crying, throwing up that “viewpoint discrimination” also applies to the stuff he hates and I AM HOWLING lmaoooooo

JUST IN: A judge has enjoined President Trump's effort to block federal funds from going toward grant recipients who engage in DEI practices. The judge says the orgs are likely to succeed on claims that this is viewpoint discrimination, among other issues storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

(Unironically) many such cases. There are substantial numbers of people out there who believe that Jordan Peterson was fired (rather than quitting to pursue more lucrative scams, while remaining professor emeritus) and that James Damore was somehow a victim of university cancel culture

“This is nice behaviour, that I write to you again and again, and you pay no attention to me.” This almost 4,000-year-old Babylonian letter in clay is proof that we have been finding ways to say “per my last email” for some time

An excellent deep dive intp the dats behind FIRE's "campus free speech" rankings. You won't be surprised to learn they are bullshit, riddled with errors and willful misrepresentions. This is not a serious organization and we would stop treating it as such. www.chronicle.com/article/the-...

Happy Black History Month

I've said for years that anti-Blackness, racism and white supremacy should be considered as misinformation / disinformation. To study the history of race and journalism is to see that White supremacy was an effective disinformation campaign. And through that, we got Jim Crow, a fascist system.

Important to start admitting that we’re living under Schrodinger’s constitution—one that is not in effect whenever it constrains Republican powers, but is in effect whenever it can be used to stymie democrats or suppress opposition.

How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes? Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce. Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

I am so sick of this shit. It’s a Sieg Heil. It’s a Nazi salute. Anyone who sees it knows. It’s ridiculous that legal departments presumably won’t let media call it what it is. Bannon made “a provocative gesture that resembled the salute Elon Musk gave at a post-inauguration rally”? Fuck off.

To paraphrase @joshjohnsoncomedy.bsky.social if Nazis saw it and got very excited, then what are you doing right now?

These people are unfit for leadership. It was true before and it’s even truer now

I feel so sick. Enough with the lies, enough with the games. They know exactly what they're doing. This is a neo-Nazi movement. Proudly so. The only reason they've kept it coded up until now was to take advantage of those who didn't want to believe it. No more looking away. Face up to what it is.

hi, are you doomscrolling? You should order your free Covid-19 tests while the federal program still exists: special.usps.com/testkits
