The Dems are moving to co-opt and neutralize a class-struggle politics by substituting it with class identity politics. That’ll mean recruiting Shawn Fains, minus the attacks on the billionaires. www.politico.com/f/?id=000001...

My latest piece @thenation.com is called "MSNBC's DEATH RATTLE". It's about the new boss, the recent firings, and my own 20 year history appearing on the network. I try to connect it to Bezos murdering the Wash Post the same week and assessing the dual significance www.thenation.com/article/soci...

just gonna be the thousandth person to remind you all that segregationists start the open bigotry with people they feel they can target most easily but do not end there

Massive encroachment by Bezos into The Washington Post’s opinion section - makes clear dissenting views will not be published I still have not felt encroachment on my journalism on the news side, but if Bezos tries interfering with the news side I will be quitting immediately and letting you know

Meanwhile, we are going to be writing every day in support and defense of democracy and the collective struggle to return the profits of labor to the working class that produces them. Subscribe to Labor Notes! labornotes.org/bu

One thing that's gone under-reported: Workers and communities are protesting hospitals that comply in advance with Trump's anti-trans EOs. And in some cases they're having an impact. Children's Hospital of LA recently lifted restrictions on hormone treatments, & workers say it was due to protests.

"Those who remained, about 65 staffers, were integrated into DOGE’s government-slashing effort. About a third of them quit Tuesday." apnews.com/article/doge...

"...there has been no mass organizing movement as many had hoped. One reason is the absence of a practical alliance between Mexican independent unions and the U.S. and Canadian unions in the same industries." labornotes.org/blogs/2025/0...

Alabama pharmacists are holding a walkout today at 1pm to demand reform to pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and fair reimbursement rates. They're calling on the state to pass SB93, the Patient Access Bill, to help pharmacies stay open.

This to me is one of the central stories about current US politics. The tech barons who decisively threw their support behind Trump wanted commercial benefits, of course; but even more, they wanted to discipline their own employees. That’s the real content of all the anti-DEI stuff.

Time to agitate for that arms embargo - and for our unions to demand it! If you're a member of the @aftunion.bsky.social you can sign this petition: www.ipetitions.com/petition/aft...

I took one of the late Nasser Hussain’s classes in college, and it was one of the most rewarding intellectual experiences of my life. Wish I had kept the course reader.

If you are an organizer building with people offline, what can kind of historical writing rooted in practical questions of power would be most helpful right now? This is the kind of writing you could use for political education with regular people. It can also be themes.

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

so @chatterton.bsky.social’s position is basically that i am a cult leader and that all of you are mindless hordes who have no actual thoughts and do not engage with substance

The Hatch Act's restrictions on engaging in partisan political activity are narrower than federal employees have been led to believe, and the AFGE has also advised they don't apply to union activity. Labor Notes Editor Jenny Brown reports: labornotes.org/2025/02/fede...

Great article on PATCO vs. today’s frontal assault on the federal workforce. www.dissentmagazine.org/online_artic...

The Teamsters union is as decentralized as the country. Like the median voter, most Teamsters aren’t closely following what Sean O’Brien is saying. The press should ensure they know how he’s selling out members to cozy up to anti-worker politicos & bolstering the power of bosses.

I follow French politics a lot, as many of you know. Any effort for mass layoffs of public sector employees there would create such huge strikes and marches, the level of disruption and paralysis would be biblical.

Predictable. I can preempt what some of Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s boosters will say, such as that she had to make these statements to get confirmed. But, as I wrote for @nplusonemag, she’s Trump’s nominee & will do what he & his billionaire cronies want. www.nplusonemag.com/online-only/...

“Gov. Kathy Hochul is preparing to send the National Guard into state prisons as unsanctioned strikes and protests by corrections officers spread to more than two dozen facilities across the state.” gothamist.com/news/gov-hoc...

Every union should be echoing this statement.

I think this is very funny coming from someone who has been loudly wrong about Trump in critical ways.

Our union is responding to an incident in Toronto with Delta Air Lines Endeavor Flight 4819. AFA crew were working this flight. Reports are there are no fatalities. Please do not speculate on this incident as everyone works to gather information and support those involved.

The CAUSE workers led a righteous fight against Amazon but fell short — this time. But in waging this battle, they taught us all important lessons. My article in @thenation.com www.thenation.com/article/acti...

more and more these days, I find myself thinking that you can accept the discipline of your political goals or you can accept the discipline of your resentments.

ICYMI: I was walking down the street today when I saw a weed-flower break through the pavement. And I think that’s a beautiful metaphor for the times. We must locate emerging possibilities within the harsh constraints of material realities. www.nplusonemag.com/online-only/...

i am 100% of the belief that simply forcing take-writers to answer the question "who specifically said this and why are they significant" would result in substantially fewer bad takes circulating in the world

Amazon workers in Montreal hold boycott protest. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7R1...

BREAKING NEWS: Governor Spencer Cox signs HB267, banning collective bargaining by public employee unions, and HB269, the transgender dorm bill. #utpol

Breaking: The unofficial results for the CAUSE election at Amazon in North Carolina are 829 voting yes to unionize and 2447 no.

There's hope in organized labor! Our house is a union family. Husband belongs to 3. My mother, grandfather, and aunt were unionized teachers. I was proud when my momma went on strike,

At the grassroots, activists are building connections across unions—sharing accurate information & strategies to fight back. One formation is the Federal Unionists Network (FUN) www.federalunionists.net/home

you should read david’s thread for a thorough dismantling of this article. i will only add that it is very disappointing, although not altogether surprising, to see some progressives treat trump’s war on DEI as a legitimate policy difference and not as an explicit effort to resegregate the workforce

Reading about what's happening in DC can be paralyzing and panic-inducing. Dems not coming to the rescue, so the best way to stay sane and successfully fight the billionaire coup is to organize where we work and live. Fantastic and clear eyed piece from @lfelizleon.bsky.social

"Like the abolitionists of the 19th century arrayed against the planter class, today we need to break the economic, ideological and political foundations of billionaire rule." @lfelizleon.bsky.social for @inthesetimesmag.bsky.social inthesetimes.com/article/labo...

"This moment calls for a broad coalition that knits together an anti-billionaire revolt from below." — @lfelizleon.bsky.social

Well worth a read from beginning to end. Empower yourselves.

Breaking: 20,000 University of California healthcare, research, and technical workers will hold an unfair labor practice strike Feb 26 - 28 across UC campuses, medical centers, and labs. They are members of the University Professional & Technical Employees (UPTE-CWA Local 9119).

If you are wondering what’s happening with the attacks on federal workers, here’s a great article by my co-worker Joe DeManuelle-Hall who covers the public sector workers for Labor Notes. Essential reading! labornotes.org/2025/02/fede...

“The constitution of the American workplace is a dictatorship of the CEO and perhaps the shareholders or partners—whoever is running the firm functions as a dictator. The reason for that is that employment law derives in America from the law of master and servant..”

Hey guess what! Remember when Starbucks workers went on strike the day before Christmas/Hanukkah of 2024? The strike inspired two more stores in Minnesota to start a union campaign. Read this report by Isabela Escalona for @workdaymagazine.bsky.social

"In Labor Notes, UE organizer Mark Meinster argued that moments of upsurge are not usually led by the top national leaders, but a small minority of militant labor unions ready to take action because they are independent from the mainstream."

Good news for Amazon workers fighting the company’s unlawful retaliation.

The labor movement is reeling from a volley of boss attacks. But now more than ever it’s important to act like a movement. No need to post through it, denouncing every horrible executive order. But do come together across unions, plot, and advance a shared strategy. inthesetimes.com/article/labo...
