I bet there are many more in the non unionized segment of the industry. I know where I live, if they were not there working hard every day, home building and renovation would slow to a trickle. And btw they are at the top for skill, effort and reliability. I’ve seen it for decades.
Giving them commensurate pay/benefits would most certainly discourage hiring them just to exploit them for cheap labor. That being said, I live in a blue state and nearly every union member I know is a MAGat. Those idiots think Trump is going to exempt them from OT taxes lol.
US labor unions haven’t always had the best history regarding immigrants and race so this is heartening to see. Now that cowardice and self-interest seem to be the order of the day we need more than ever to find bravery and solidarity in the face of all the shit that’s coming.
My brother was a union organizer for construction workers. He'd go out sites in the Central Valley in CA and try to convince guys that unions were the way to go. There were times it got really sketchy. And it's important to remember the valid fear factor of the workers.
We need union leaders throughout the country to help organize major protests. Union leaders have the resources to get the protests noticed. Currently, protests are not being reported on by legacy media.

But ya have Blanche ya have!
Do you call leadership daily and push them? Calling your union rep and leadership is kind of like calling your senators. They should all know how deeply you want them to tongue your ass at all fucking times.
You’ve never been near a union job site have you? You have relatives in a blue-collar union? I doubt it, now on yer bike you go with dreams of progressives joining unions!
Tradesmen have always been personally problematic. That’s why they need to be fucking organized. You fucking idiots. This is why I said the unions need to get their heads out of their asses.
I don’t care to debate with you . General strike ends this.
The 1930s were no different than today. Same problemstic tradesmen and racists. Maybe worse. But labor came together signed up millions and forced the president to make a deal with the people instead of capital. Not at all weird to demand that leadership lead.
Please know your history y’all.

They’re right. There are some good unions. But most of these pathetic guys absolutely love Trump’s bigotry and will only tepidly speak out if he hurts their wallets. They bleat about solidarity then throw women under the bus. Fuck them.
Absolutely fuck them. But are you going to let those fuckers win this?
It is likely that the leadership is actually gonna have to come from a couple of the very large unions that are not trades first and foremost. But the more y’all call your harmful unions the more they will be prepared to join.
Let these mouthbreathers suffer. It’s pathetic blue collar masculine identity bullshit. The guys from the biggest unions who support Trump dont care about workers rights. They care about themselves only. https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3likgwiqjoy2m
The Trump support of union members was disgusting. This could be seen in the cowardly unions that refused to support the Democrats in this last election. I was a member for 8 years and was disgusted by the right wing bigotry I witnessed. Many of these folks are clueless about union history.
It’s the immigrants themselves who start construction companies, etc., and then hire the next group of cheap labor to arrive. They are not Union. Also landscaping, roofing, junk removal and on and on. I’m not aware of any unions hiring illegals bc that is illegal.
The National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) protects the right of most workers, regardless of immigration status. These can join a union and form their own Union, legally.
Funny how the employers of the so called illegal’s aren’t being prosecuted. Without the years of abuse and hoops people have to jump through, you’d think they’d be a better way. Modern day slavery.
One day I saw immigrant construction workers buying their lunch in a restaurant on their lunch break and right around the corner from that restaurant was American citizens begging for money on that corner.
I’ve worked most of my career in commercial construction. Nothing gets built without immigrants. They are the most loyal and hard working people on the job sites. Don’t think that Trump didn’t exploit them to the maximum to build his Towers. They are not expendable.
Yeah, maybe all the unions should have not voted for a fucking felon, traitor. You know, that would have been helpful. Nah, you choose this. Stop bitching now.
They should also stand with all working people outside this country. If US unions had worked to organize globally we’d be in a better place here and abroad.
I can't see a good reason for not allowing employers to apply for work visas for these essential employees. Renewable until Congress gets its shit together.
50 plus years in the construction industry gives me strong conf8dence that somewhere north of 95% of immigrants in thar industry do not belong to union and no no representation by contract or legal status whatsoever. Top union leadership in that industry are sellots.
Please engage with leaders of other organizations (who should also be reaching out to you, too), and unite behind the common cause that is oppressing all of us, even those that don’t understand why they are suffering because they have been misled.
Reminds me of the interview that Sean O’Brien did with Josh Hawley, where Sean yapped about how he agrees with hawley on immigration because of how immigrant workers undercut union wages. THE SOLUTION IS UNIONIZING! not deportations! That’s your whole thing! Unionize the immigrants as well!
There's so many immigrants because white people refused to hire someone Black. Then they discovered Latinos were the ones that are replacing them, and so we have Trump. This could have been prevented. Call out the racism whenever you see or hear it.
They are doing it to water down the Black vote, but it bit them in the azz. And you cannot expect us to vote for the republicans who is entirely on board to replace everyone with unqualified white people. Hegseth drinks on camera and planes are crashing. Democrats are only logical.
I wonder what would have happened if Trump had been around when the Railroads were being built and rounded up and deported all of the Chinese for being illegals????????
Union members seem determined to defy leadership, vote R, because they’re “manlier,” against thier interest. The R’s did such a good job associating D politics with gender identity shit (that matters but not the point) so they could alienate cis working men. And that’s who wins elections for R’s.
Just like with farming, business loves immigrants because they work under the system with no benefits. And can be discarded if they don't work like slaves.
Damn fucking skippy! This country was literally built on the backs of immigrants. And if we all really want to get technical, let’s ask Native Americans how they feel about the fucking Mayflower.
You're exactly right. Just like the red states that scream about 'handouts' yet it's the red states that are most reliant on federal funding. If certain types of people aren't whining they're not happy.

Fewer members, well...do the math here.

You're right, without a doubt. But good luck convincing union *members* who are, sadly, some of the dumbest and worst Americans we have.
And my local refusing to put out any information on the presidential endorsement of our national union is probably a coincidence, right?
Sure!
I've been a member for 3 years and there's like a thousand members. I haven't allowed shit.

MAGAs defining principle is they don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves, &will happily cede rights to corporate kleptocrats.
The right has successfully weaponized identity politics & these ppl do NOT value "union member" as part of their identity.
My local endorsed a (spineless) local US Rep and no one else. No pamphlets for Harris. And not even pamphlets AGAINST Project 2025.
The contract is just accomplishments from decades ago.

"Unions" should be hiring legal workers.
A 'union' that represents and knowingly supports non-legal workers being hired is also breaking the law.
Again...'cheap' labor does mean it's the right thing to do.
Not at all the point I was getting at, but you're not wrong.
Police unions need to defend their support of what’s happening to the FBI and the US Attys office.
The answer is the same old, unionize. Bring them in, boost your numbers, and hear your voice echo louder for it.
