Reality denial is the last stage of disordered discourse, see who falls in line with this.

Wired gained 62,500 new subscribers in the United States during the first two weeks of February alone. Last year it reported a total of 19.5 million subscribers, either digital or for the monthly printed magazine, or both. Its eight global editions reach 57 million total.

This viral New York Post video, which falsely claims "USAID paid Time magazine $4m to name Zelensky person of the year", is fake and was never published by the New York Post. It's similar in style to videos created by a well-known Russian disinformation operation that imitiates major news outlets.

For years, people have been wondering when we would reach the point where fake, AI-generated content would become good enough to cause mass confusion in relation to major and breaking news events. We now seem to be reaching that point, particularly with AI-generated audio and images.

Thread: A viral clip of Donald Trump Jr saying on his Triggered podcast that "the US should have been sending weapons to Russia" instead of Ukraine is AI-generated and fake. Worryingly, the fake AI audio sounds near identical to Don Jr's real voice. Let's see how we can verify that it's fake.

THREAD: Audio purporting to show Donald Trump Jr saying the US should have sent Russia weapons has gone viral, with an official DNC account sharing it. Media forensics expert Hany Farid analyzed it with two models and told me each "classifies the voices with high confidence as AI-generated." (1/5)

I celebrate the 80% of Germans who did not vote for the far right. Do not make 19.6% of German voters into "the" German people (again). "The" German people don't exist! The German population is diverse and divided, but voted overwhelmingly for liberal democratic parties. #BTW25 #GermanElection

Thread - I've been thinking a lot about Walter Lippmann’s Public Opinion lately, especially in the context of Musk’s role in dismantling the federal workforce through DOGE. It’s a perfect example of what Lippmann warned about over a century ago.

Elon Musk vuole «correggere» Community Notes per evitare che smentiscano lui e Donald Trump www.open.online/2025/02/20/e...

X user Dom Lucre, who has promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory, is at today's White House Black History Month event. He was once banned from X for posting what Elon Musk — who later reinstated his account — described as "child exploitation pictures." Offensive language warning.

This is a perfect encapsulation of something I keep saying: adapting content moderation interventions based on what is politically expedient is naive and reckless. As soon as an intervention is powerful enough to upset a political actor, that actor will attack it as biased.

Elon Musk says he's going to "fix" X's community notes system because he disagrees with a note on President Trump's claim that Zelensky has a 4% approval rating in Ukraine. Musk also claims community notes are "being gamed by governments & legacy media", but provides no evidence for that claim.

Remember a fake video in October that showed a fake poll worker destroying pro-Trump election ballots in Pennsylvania? There's now a copycat fake video with the same script about the German election, showing a fake poll worker destroying election ballots for the AfD in Hamburg.
