Historically, Oval Office embarrassments—like Reagan’s “bombing Russia” quip or Bush’s awkward Merkel shoulder rub—pale in comparison. Those were gaffes, fleeting and unintentional. This was deliberate and sustained, a tag-team assault on a guest that undermined America’s moral authority.

USSR originally sided with Hitler, struck a deal - the Molotov- Ribbentrop Pact - to divvy up Europe between them. When Hitler broke the deal and invaded USSR, Stalin of necessity sided with the allies, heavily supported by US. At the the war's end, Stalin imprisoned Eastern European countries.
