Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.* There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

If you're not reading Josh Marshall, well... @joshtpm.bsky.social you should be. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/infle...

A defining policy battle is about to come to a head in this country. The Republican budget will force everyone - especially Congress and the White House - to make plain whether they are prepared to harm the rest of us in order to fund tax cuts for the wealthiest.

I would STRONGLY urge EVERYONE following politics to subscribe to this labeler. It adds labels to every politicians profile so you know who funds them. Useful so you know their positions and who's paying them for it if applicable. Uses data from Opensecrets/FEC data @us-gov-funding.bsky.social

Tonight we proposed an amendment to ensure that the Republican budget doesn’t raise prescription drug costs for seniors on Medicare. And guess what? Republicans blocked it — just like they opposed us when we gave Medicare the power to lower drug prices.

I am the great-grandson of a man who led his family out of the shtetl to a strange land in search of a better life. I am the grandson of the three-year-old boy on that journey. As you know, my name is Marc, but my Hebrew name is Elhanan—after the warrior in David’s army who slew a powerful giant.

NEW: A letter from an anonymous federal worker. Please read and share: www.muellershewrote.com/p/letter-fro...

🔥 WATCH: “Anybody can violate the law. The Pope, The president, Any sonofabitch can violate the law — how bout that? That’s fascist bullshit. We have one law. Or we have chaos.” Rep. Joe Towns (D-MEMPHIS) let loose about Trump implying the law doesn’t apply to him.

@repjasmine.bsky.social watching you on “All In” and excited to hear you suggest a daily briefing. Been saying this for weeks and seeing many others suggesting this as well! So glad to hear this is being discussed. There is a lot of support out there for this. Also shadow cabinet!

helluva thread from the hellsite about the comically bad “savings” doge claims to have found (sorry for the weirdly sized screenshots, I had to squeeze everything into only 4 of them)

Is Musk demanding the data held by the Social Security Administration in order to make it more efficient? Unlikely. Here's a better explanation: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

This is why you fight these cowards. The moment you stand up to them, they crumble. Homan has nothing. The Fourth Amendment is clear and I am well within my duties to educate people of their rights. He can threaten me with jail and call names all he wants. He’s got nothing else.

JUST IN: Another medical horror story in an affidavit from a USAID employee stationed overseas. Says his pregnant wife was not medevac-ed for emergency health care because of directives from DC. Took intervention of a U.S. senator to reverse — but was too late. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

Thread. Some good insights on this last week’s purge of federal employees from @joshtpm.bsky.social. Note that this is all about Musk and the tech culture that spawned him, not about Trump. Musk bought Trump. He nominally owes his position to Trump, but he is driving this train by himself.

This administration's combination of ignorance, arrogance, laziness, & power is going to kill American workers on the job.

“State doesn’t want employees telling the press that life-saving grants haven’t been resumed, because Marco Rubio doesn’t want to confess to Republicans that he failed to deliver what he promised them.”

Since President’s Day and Black History Month came to be celebrated due to the birthdays of notable abolitionist President Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas, I’d like to commemorate this President’s Day by calling attention to heroic African Americans that fought for all of our freedom. 1/

This is from a week ago. Others have said the same. We need this to happen.

Since Wapo won’t run this let’s make it viral.

This is the way… “The elected officials in Washington have to stop protesting in Washington. They have to go back to their districts…show the consequences…show the school that isn’t operating…they have to make it real.” With social media, word will spread to neighboring districts—even red ones.

Republicans aren’t hiding anything. Their priorities are written in black and white: trillions of dollars in tax breaks to the rich, while making savage cuts to Medicaid, housing, nutrition and education. The reconciliation bill will make the rich even richer and the poor poorer.

@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social 👇 is addressing you. It’s the couping you need to address. Please focus.

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

“Now Trump, Musk, and the Republicans are purging funds for cancer research, family farms, national parks, food, nuclear security, and medical care—all programs his supporters care about—and threatening to throw the country into an economic tailspin that will badly hurt Republican-dominated states.”

Meet "the swamp." Researchers working on cancer treatment, opioid addiction, prosthetics and burn pit exposure. Special education specialists and student aid officials. Experts helping farmers manage their land to prevent soil erosion and water pollution. www.yahoo.com/news/anger-c...

Dear Democratic Party: why are you not screaming this from every rooftop? Why are you not holding press conferences with these poor fired people - putting a face on what the richest man is destroying?

Who will cure your cancer? Who will stop the company next door from poisoning your kids? Who will make sure your plane doesn’t plummet 30,000 feet? The federal workforce are public servants and without them the public is screwed

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.

THIS is how it’s done! 💥💥💥

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: an administration (and its supporters) who believe that they are not limited by the rule of law have no moral or philosophical claim to the protection of the rule of law. “The law is whatever we say it is” warrants the same in response.
