On May 2nd, in Western NY, federal immigration agents stopped a bus of farm workers from Lynn-Ette & Sons Farms. They had a list of names, including UFW worker leaders who have been organizing to unionize their workplace. Those workers were detained. 1/ #WeFeedYou

Immigration detention was already notorious for abuse and neglect, but now the Trump administration is expanding it into some of the country's most infamous prisons. No one should be forced to live in the appalling conditions inside these facilities.

Under Trump, Americans are relearning the lesson we learned about the oligarchy during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good.

Trump's incompetence is everywhere.  His regime can’t keep military secrets. It can’t maintain financial stability. It can’t protect children from measles. While we resist Trump’s authoritarianism, we also need to highlight his utter inability to govern America.

Oligarchy (noun): A government of and by a few at the top, who exercise power for their own benefit. Their power and wealth increase as they make laws that favor themselves, manipulate financial markets, and create monopolies that put more wealth into their pockets.

This is what a rigged economy looks like: In the 1970s, CEOs made 27 times more than the average worker. In the 1980s, CEOs made 48 times more than the average worker. This decade, CEOs are making 354 times more than the average worker. That has got to change.

The oil industry buys off Congress. No action on climate. The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns. Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care. The list goes on and on. Money in politics is the root of our dysfunction.

In 1939, Hitler authorized a euthanasia program for institutionalized disabled people It required doctors to first identify those who should be euthanized In 1941, this program became the model for the death camps A registry of disabled people is, in fact, a 5 alarm fire

Last night was the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride to warn the Minutemen of approaching British troops. I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III. Remind you of anyone?

DID YOU KNOW? As of March, we canceled $50 BILLION in medical debt from Americans' credit reports. We made it illegal for medical debt to affect your credit score. But Trump & greedy health insurance CEOs LOVE your medical debt & want to undo this. bsky.app/profile/wire...

Added layer of absurdity the article mentions: Not only did he *not* break the law he's charged under, a judge issued an order temporarily *blocking* enforcement of that law 2 weeks ago! So a man is in jail rn for not actually violating a law thats not actually in effect, i.e. no reason but racism

I'm with her.

Ending the government's free, easy-to-use tax filing service means giant tax prep companies get a big boost while working families pay more.   That's what "efficiency" means to Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are going after Direct File because it stops giant tax prep companies from ripping taxpayers off for services that should be free. Americans want a free and easy way to file their taxes — Trump and Musk want to take that away.

On this Tax Day, let's remember: --the top marginal tax rate was >90% post-WWII; now it's 37% --because of loopholes, billionaires often pay little or nothing in income tax --cuts to the IRS lead to *more* audits of lower-income households, because high earners cost more to investigate

Every tyrant in history has sought to stifle criticism of himself and his regime. But America was founded on criticism. American democracy was built on dissent. Every institution, group, firm, or individual that surrenders to Trump’s wanton tyranny invites more of it.

In 2016, the Kishony Lab at Harvard Medical School put together this demonstration of acquired antibiotic resistance in E. coli bacteria, creating a mega-Petri dish (2' x 4') with a stepped gradient of antibiotic. Seeing the mutants emerge & spread is an elegant demo of evolutionary change.

15 years ago the Supreme Court decided corporations are people under the First Amendment. Today, billionaire political spending is up 160-fold since that ruling. Citizens United is among the worst decisions in history. It corrupts our system every day.

@aoc.bsky.social: We must acknowledge the terrifying moment we are in right now. What we are hearing and seeing with our own eyes is, in fact, happening. We are watching our neighbors, students, and friends being fired, targeted, and disappeared. It is real.

bryan knows this, but i'm making it explicit for others: "the stress of the discrimination" includes both psychological stress and material aspects of discrimination. fat people are treated atrociously, lifelong, by people with POWER OVER our literal food, homes, wages, jobs, education, etc.

People ask--why isn't the US having more babies? But the better question is--why are we still having so many? And I'd say the answer is--we groom girls for motherhood as soon as they can hold a babydoll, limit their other options so it's more appealing, and force them if they won't go willingly.

Science does not work like this. The only way you can set a timeline is if you have rigged the results in advance.

This is INTOLERABLE CRUELTY.

The 500 richest people in the world added $304B to their combined net worth yesterday after Trump's tariff pause. Meanwhile, retirees, small businesses, and workers are still reeling from the mess. Trump's actions feel chaotic until you see who really comes out on top.

Tariffs on their own do not create more American jobs or lead to more US production. In fact, Trump's last trade war cost roughly 300,000 jobs. All these tariffs will do is give corporations cover to jack up prices and pad their profits at our expense.

people always forget but ICE is barely more than 20 years old, it was created in 2003 as part of DHS after 9/11 obviously most of its functions existed in other agencies beforehand but putting it all together has been an unmitigated disaster

i am fascinated by the outright refusal of people in the professional political commentary class to just consider the possibility that there is no plan and that trump really is a braying idiot with the more acute case of narcissistic personality disorder on record

For people who aren't in big cities or people who are in red states, these rallies and other actions can be lifesavers. If you think they don't matter, try viewing them from a different perspective.

Trump says he’ll use revenue from tariffs to “offset” more big tax cuts. Those tax cuts will disproportionately benefit wealthy Americans and big corporations. But revenue raised from tariffs will be coming disproportionately from average working people. See how this works?

If you have lost power due to the storms across the country, remember to keep your portable generator at least 20ft away from any home or shelter. Make sure you have a working carbon monoxide alarm. Generators can produce enough carbon monoxide to kill in minutes. www.nbcnews.com/weather/floo...

Trump just pardoned crypto firm BitMex for violating money laundering laws — making him potentially the first president in American history to pardon a corporation. It's truly a new Golden Age for corporate crime.
