Under Trump, Americans are relearning the lesson we learned about the oligarchy during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good.

"Oligarchy" upsets those who inherit wealth like heiress Slotkin. It upsets Third Way and the corporate, affluent donors who promote the milquetoast non fighting centrists that they want to dominate the Dem Party.
Oligarchy manipulates the masses into thinking we have to bow to their whims. They are vulnerable with their illusions of power🦅Know their biggest fear is we won't want their stuff, we won't believe their lies🦅We invented the Revolution for freedom, not their golden calf🦅Vote em out🇺🇸
You can't relearn what you never learned to begin with.
Republicans have made sure no one has gotten a good US history education since I was a kid a generation ago, back when CA actually had good public schools.
What Trump is doing to the gov't and economy right now is for his own personal benefit--so Trump won't have to pay any more income taxes. He aims to fund a drastically reduced gov't with tariffs instead of income taxes. The common good does not factor in.
Dont give democrats a pass, they have their oligarch donors who control policy, too. New DNC chair lobes "good" billionaires. That said, ust as always repubs are the more violent, faster death. But both hurt the avg american. We need, must, demand different.
where are all the DNC politicians NOT on mainstream media shows? They need to refute each false narrative by FOX, OAN, Newsmax, Breitbart et al.. Chuck and Hakeem take a break from pleasuring your bribers.. realign with WTP.
It is extremely good for robber barons & oligarchs, though.
Trump imposing tariffs in hopes of preventing US default to allow cover for a big tax cut for the rich, being only 1 example.
It is crazy that the "robber baron" tactics used to reshape their image & influence has been used numerous times in US History with success - we now have a portion of the population not only defending the Oligarchs, but worshipping & defending them.
Notice $5K in doge rebates and talk of giving $5000 to new moms has pivoted to “buy your kids 2 dolls instead of 30” and lies that the bad economy & outlook is somehow President Biden’s fault.
You don’t need a permit to march in the streets or on sidewalks, as long as marchers don’t obstruct car or pedestrian traffic. Grab your friends and your friend’s friends and get to it!
MAYDAY! Today, Thursday, May 1st. Information here about protests. Confirm time and place with your local Indivisible, https://FiftyFifty.one or Women’s March group.

801 oligarchs in the US. MOST ARE THE ENEMY. The Trump admin is their TOOL and Trump is their FOOL. They have us fighting each other over the price of eggs and immigrants while they grow richer by the day.
This is the late 1800's all over again, but this time we have Trump and not Teddy Roosevelt
TR wasn't perfect, but a good trust buster, environmentalist, and could take a bullet. Maybe there is someone like him to lead. Don't even have to be elected, just lead
Thanks Google AI, you finally did something right.
The "defeat" of oligarchy in America during the 1890s is not a single event, but rather a period of change and societal shifts that challenged the existing power structures.
While the Gilded Age, with its concentration of wealth and influence among a select few, certainly presented characteristics of oligarchy, the 1890s saw growing unrest and reform movements that chipped away at its foundations.
Economic Crisis and Popular Discontent:
The Panic of 1893 triggered a severe economic depression, leading to widespread unemployment and hardship, particularly among the industrial workforce.
This economic downturn fueled public discontent and highlighted the inequities of the era, making it more difficult for the established elite to maintain their power.
Rise of Populist and Reform Movements:
The economic crisis gave rise to populist and reform movements that challenged the status quo. These movements advocated for increased government regulation, a more equitable distribution of wealth, and greater political participation for the working class.
Growing Labor Unrest:
The 1890s witnessed numerous strikes and labor disputes, reflecting the growing demands of workers for better wages, working conditions, and the right to organize. These labor struggles challenged the dominance of corporate elites and contributed to a more democratic landscape.
Agree 💯, when Trump speaks of "The Golden Age" that America was the wealthiest from 1870 - 1913 he's really referring to "The Gilded Age". The time of political corruption and economic inequalities.
The Meat Inspection Act. They needed the Meat Inspection Act. That should be all you need to know about US culture and capitalism. The rich will happily kill you and your children, and consider it you learning a valuable lesson.
Oligarchs are mostly Russians. Robber Baron is an anachronistic label. Neither resonate with our current culture or populace. Nor do they accurately depict the heavy-handed billionaires and their legislative/judicial pawns. We need a specific/unique/time-sensitive descriptor…ENUFELON.
I teach social studies and just covered this very topic… I made sure the kids could see that parallels. I also teach ELA, we just started Anne Frank….and yeah the parallels there are terrifying. My kids are informed of current events and they are pissed. 8th grade
We've been heading this way since Reagan took office.
Remember what else the Gilded Age gave us? Eugenics and concentration camps (did you think the Nazis did it first?).
🤓 Umm, actually you can just go back to Reagan's "trickle down economics" that A LOT of GOPers still hold dear in their hearts as the current catalyst. It's the Oligarchs' playbook. Trump and Trumpism is simply the symptom of that false belief.
The bigger lesson we learned at that point is the utter folly of Social Darwinism, i.e., that Rich =/ Smart. We, hopefully, are in the process of re-learning that, bc we DESPERATELY need to.
Robert, this is all a product of Capitalism which is not concerned for the "common good". Capitalism is a product of Imperialism and Colonialism. "Manifest Destiny" and "Might is Right". Capitalism is the tool for those policies.
The problem is that the current Trump crew are devotees of people like Peter Thiel who has said that he “no longer believes that freedom and democracy are compatible” and Curtis Yarvin who said “If Americans want to change their government, they’re going to have to get over their dictator-phobia.”
I’m not sure what they think “freedom” is, but since it’s only THEIR freedom they are concerned with, they can take their billions and move to an uninhabited island and be as free as a bird.
The evolutionary mind of humanity is yet rooted in survival instincts, rather than the prosperity of cooperation and compassion.

These are the unknown figures that overrode the voters selection of Biden, who won all primaries.
Probably the same folks that implemented DEI policies with no laws and chose the ignore immigration laws.

I have a feeling this might be of good listening for some.

Today's robber barons would rather use it as toilet paper than give it to a good cause.

They aren’t rich. They’ll never be rich. They don’t have any rich family members. They don’t have any rich friends.
They actually bought the Trickle Down myth I guess.
Remember folks, back in the 1890’s the billionaire class was fighting for tariffs. Just like now
