Really trying to find the wording for the "Mardi Gras beads crack the cybertruck windshield" metaphor for the current moment. It's there, I know it.

I have a meeting with HR later about a mysterious change to my job, and like...I can't quit over basically anything, I'm a librarian and my partner works in education, we HAVE to be banking $$ right now in case our jobs become illegal! So my point is I hope the change is "more puppies."

It's also not great from an animal welfare perspective. Chickens get sick or hurt a LOT, most vets in most areas don't treat them, so people either let them suffer or do some weird shit they saw on Facebook to "help." Most people won't harvest their own chickens for food or humanely euthanize them.

Horny Boat Doctor Show IS INDEED A GOOD TIME, please go watch the first part so you're ready for orcas also 99% of the time I'm mad at the AI overview but I like to think I fucked this one up a little

Holy SHIT episode 7!

This is fascinating to me because I am the opposite. I will edit bad writing in my head on the fly to enjoy a good story, but boring beautiful writing absolutely can not hold my attention. And I love language! But like...for the length of a poem.

This thread inspired me to catch up on Paradise so I'm reposting it so I remember to read it once I know what's going on. You should also watch Paradise it's wild and there's butts.

At the end of the day, we tell you that generative AI is built on unethical copyright theft, exploits and underpays its workers, causes catastrophic environmental damage, and produces increasingly terrible looking shit, and you just decide not to care.

YES eventually I may be able to stop trying to keep my old button-having car alive and get a NEW button-having car!

The implication that it used to be just fine is WILD.

I once sent a patron hone with When No One Is Watching and they came back the next week to ask for something else exactly like it. I really hope they come back soon so I can tell them about this!

Whoa yeah. I will be quietly screaming this in meetings until I retire (hopefully I get to retire as still a librarian).

I mean, it's common in countries where RFK JR has managed to damage public health policy. Also countries where people can't afford/don't have access to protect their children from dying even though they desperately want to. Here, it's a choice to let babies die of a preventable disease.

In reality the fascism is not funny but this is an Arrested Development bit

I regret that I had but one subscription to cancel for my country.

It's pretty amazing how flickers have learned to use the human-built parts of their environment to amplify their natural behaviors and evolved to become THE MOST ANNOYING BIRDS ON EARTH.

AI bros reliably want to use AI to replace people who tell them “no,” like workers and lawyers and women

Dad joke of the weekend

Movie you've watched more than 6 times, gifs only

I'm sorry but the writing on this year is just way too over the top.

No, the mail is not “the least of our worries.” It’s a fucking important worry. It is the only postal service that delivers to every address. They are only provider of complete mail services for overseas military bases and provide free overseas PO boxes. They help prepare passport apps. Ship meds…

You know what? I think none of this would be happening in the BerenstEIN universe.

On the bright side, there's a kingfisher AND a red-tailed hawk behind my house right now, and I'm Not A Birder but I DID squeak a little bit when I saw the kingfisher (I haven't seen him in a while! I was worried!).

If I had a band or a label, I would do a punk cover of "No More Kings" from Schoolhouse Rock. And then I would gather a bunch of people to write a whole album of next-generation Schoolhouse Rock songs, with songs about Social Security and Medicaid and NOAA. I am not kidding in the least.

We already know these weirdos think everything they don't like is "fraud."

Someone just rollerskated down the sidewalk outside my office window. Like doing swizzels and crossovers and stuff, bouncing to a beat. It's five degrees F out there. I'm obsessed.

I talked to three different, usually well-informed, people today who had no idea about Airplane Upside-down. That picture was *everywhere.* People have truly been overwhelmed by the firehose.

"Even if sometimes wrong" is a pretty big problem if we're claiming to empower people! Your local library can provide accurate information for free and doesn't even drain half a lake to do it!

I drove a Saturn for years in Colorado. It could have done this. It did things like this every winter. I never got it that stuck.

I actually DO know a fair bit about how airplanes and airports work, because I have friends who are commercial pilots, flight crew, airport crew, and ATC, and learning is how I got my fear of flying under control. Because of the things I know, that fear is BACK, baby!

Two things: 1, gendering clothing is silly people should wear whatever they want, and no one thinks it's weird when I wear men's shirts because misogyny. 2, no way does Kendrick Lamar wear the same size jeans as me. Unpossible.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

I cannot believe that in the Year of Our Birdflu 2025 we are still doing "cooking food makes it less nutritious." You and your pets can get every single nutrient you need even if you cook everything to foodsafe temperatures! Commercial pet food is actually designed to do this quite successfully.

I am going to be so pissed if--after everything--I do, in fact, die of dysentery.

Don't mess with librarians. They keep losing funding and people threaten them constantly and they are so close to having a breakdown.

We could just be reading great books, watching good movies, and eating fruit. Instead we have to survive/fight miserable power hoarders. What a waste of limited time.

"Plagiarism" because I used words that the teacher thought I couldn't possibly know. He couldn't find the source I had supposedly stolen from but he never admitted he was wrong. I'm still salty almost 30 years later.
