So much truth here...

And I am an ally. If you are too, let the world know.

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

Sure would be nice if the U.S. continued funding stuff like “vaccines for pancreatic cancer.”

Goosebump producing news this week out of Oregon Health and Science University in the diagnosis of pancreatic CA. They developed a groundbreaking blood test, called PAC-MANN. This new test can find pancreatic cancer in just 45 minutes, even in its earliest stages.

Just a reminder that the HPV vaccine literally PREVENTS CANCER and the series can be started as early as 9 years of age.

Canada must ban foreign ownership of Candian Media.

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center say results of a Phase I trial of an mRNA vaccine aimed at preventing pancreatic cancer show promise. The vaccine PREVENTED the cancer from coming back in patients who had already received treatment for MORE THAN three years. 🧪🧵⬇️

It matters that scientists speak out against what is being done to US science. Staying silent is neither "objective" nor "staying out of politics". Silence now *is* political - it supports the status quo, says "nothing to worry about". We need to sound the alarm. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Thrilled to spread word of this landmark occasion for our outstanding partner research institution, The Neuro!

This is the biggest Canada/Russia game since the 72 Challenge Series. 🇨🇦 🇷🇺 🇺🇸

From NIH Office of Research on Women's Health webpage Sex as a Biological Variable tab "Historic document published prior to January 20, 2025" It looks like we are headed back to the good old days when women were consider to be small men for the purposes of research...

This is a five-alarm fire 🔥 for US science 🧪. (We keep saying that, but it keeps being true 😭.) Trump and Musk are blocking *ALL* NIH grants ‼️ by "exploiting a loophole in the process"—stopping study sections & council meetings. Every biomedical researcher in the country should be screaming. 1/

it's a Nazi salute

We scientists need to up our game in communicating what we do as it helps to be able to describe your work lucidly to reviewers and the public. But professional science communicators need to come to the forefront too. What is happening in the USA is undermining all the good that you do.

In future generations, when your children and grandchildren look back on this moment, they are not going to ask about the price of eggs. They are going to ask you what you did. Not what you felt. Not what you paid. But what you did. And I want to be able to say I did everything I possibly could.

I sit on a committee for the Excellence in ScComm awards. This afternoon, I wrote to my fellow members that unless & until @nationalacademies.org “actively combat political censorship instead of capitulating to illegal, racist demands, I will not participate in any further service on their behalf.“

Based on the science, diversity matters www.nature.com/articles/s43... "...science has established the importance of diversity time and time again."

The state of Texas refused to study the health impact of the abortion ban. So ProPublica did and turns out sepsis rates for pregnant women jumped. www.propublica.org/article/texa...

I just did this and reached out to the newspaper in my small, conservative TX hometown - I too got an email back in like 10 minutes with the request to write a local column!

So I did this today: banged out a couple hundred words of a pitch while managing lab, sent it to the opinion page editor at the newspaper my parents still somehow get in print, and got back a "yes" in, I absolutely kid you not, under 15 minutes

Reaching out to all Americans through the media to explain how decreasing funding of the NIH will have irreversible harm for developing therapies for all diseases. Please spread the word to your families and friends and contact your congressional representatives. www.nbcnews.com/science/scie...

Firings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut. This isn’t about the budget. If it was, they’d be going after the military (17%) or state appropriations (38%). NSF is 0.7% of the federal budget. All federal employees make up only 4% of the budget.

Nothing else to say.

“That is why I am speaking to the whole family of humankind, minorities and women alike. If you qualify and would like to be an astronaut, now is the time. Imagine being rich enough to do anything you want and choosing to take food and medicine from starving children to give yourself even more money.

How it started vs. how it is going.🙄😒 Obs: You will not cure all diseases in children if you don't invest in leadership coming from diversity.

"Amanda Jones, a librarian in Louisiana, has received death threats since speaking out against book bans. She was labelled a paedophile and filmed by strangers in public. She fears going out alone. “I can name a librarian in every state this has happened to — and I fear it’s only going to get worse”

The most shocking thing about this is that anyone took him at his word.

“Inaction is action”. Like it or not inaction speaks volumes. You might as well stand up for your values.

I got to concentrate on grant writing. And the world is burning around us. …but something to distract you momentarily? Put a smile on your face? I got this card from K2 for Valentine’s Day. 😂

Excited to announce multiple #PhD & #Postdoc positions opening in my lab over the next three years as part of the #ERC Starting grant DIVERSE! Reposts appreciated 😊 #neuroscience #neuroskyence

Thanks to all of the NIHers and their friends who reached out to me. I am still here (DM me or Signal jeremymberg.78) I still have a very incomplete picture but based on what I have been told, the damage to NIH and to many wonderful people who work(ed) there is/was impossible for me to imagine 1/n

“There’s also a lot of Québécois who would usually fly the Québec flag are now flying the Canadian flag.” You Americans will never appreciate how pissed we are at your country that Quebecois are flying Canadian flags.

I’ve been told some academic centers are telling their faculty not to speak up. In case anyone was wondering, injustice has never been overcome through silence. You can choose to speak up, or you can be complicit in the oppression. Everyone has a choice. May we all choose wisely.
