Absolutely all this. There was a trend a little while ago where people were saying that PFL was invented by non-autistic people to degrade and other us, which couldnāt be further from the truth.

When I first created a Twitter account to find other autistic people, there were a lot of people (I believe you were one of them) talking about the importance of understanding history and varied experiences and I am so grateful for that and the way it has shaped my understanding.

I still consider myself new (diagnosed 2018 but didnāt connect with others until 2020) so hesitate to speak up as Iām constantly learning but itās difficult to see how little room their seems to be for diverse experiences, especially from some of the influencers.

Even here, I see people misinterpret something someone (often a long time advocate) has said but they donāt know the persons background and start making accusations without trying to understand where theyāre coming from. Itās frustrating.

If youāre after something more, Sandhya Menon (an Autisitc psychologist) talked about her personal experiences of being harmed by the word spicy and how it is used as a form of cultural appropriation, on her Instagram

If you didnāt get to that point before you found out you were Autistic and managed to turn your life around, thatās wonderful. But itās not the experience of many of us.

But also, depression, anxiety, and existential dread is really common in Autistic people and we should be allowed to talk about our experiences. Many of us (including myself) were diagnosed after a very major mental health crisis and it takes time to āfindā ourselves.

If she thought your article was too depressing, I hate to think of her reaction if she read Donna Williamsā memoirs for example. Thereās so much history that seemingly gets lost now, which results in people attacking others, tone of older work, or ideas without understanding the underlying context.

Both articles read to me exactly as the intention youāve stated. It seems sheās cherry picked quotes for impact and lost the context in the process (somewhat ironically given that you explicitly state youāre using the life expectancy of 35 for impact).

Hi, I donāt have any lists on my personal account. If youāre referring to @autisticbooks.bsky.social, thatās already done!

Speaking as an autistic person, I promise I have never accidentally done a Sieg Heil at a political rally because I misunderstood social cues.

Sorry Miya, I know Iāve been taking ages to reply. Cleaning out the house of someone whoās literally a hoarder is exhausting, plus the long travel. Weāre taking a break for a couple of weeks before we go back in so Iāll be around a bit more until then.
Sending hugs @motiblackart.bsky.social too š

Moving is so exhausting, especially when youāve done it so many times. It takes me many months to settle after a move. Hoping you find some stability soon š

I wear menās t-shirts and hoodies. For me, the cut is so much more comfortable and theyāre usually much cheaper than womenās clothes too. Iām definitely at the comfort over fashion point of my life!

It misses the point because the goal is inclusion and equity, not replacing one hierarchy with another. Elevating certain autistic experiences while dismissing others reinforces the same exclusionary systems we aim to dismantle. So focus guys and dolls šš¾

The money ran out. We have more data to crunch if someone wants to pay for additional research. Itās a good start as itās hard to get any funds to study adults. #IncludeMyMenopause

Nice! Thereās very specific train lines heās interested in, particularly in Norway. I wish it was easier to move between countries!

Very jealous of the cool temps. My partner and I are always talking about moving to Scotland (I'm part Scottish, although never been) or even Norway for the climate š
(also my partner has train autism and wants to see some of the train lines..). We don't cope well with heat so Australia is terrible.

People need to stop being satisfied with ābetter than the LNPā
