So apparently CPAP masks die an ill-fitting, loud, and miserable death and mine just did. Sigh.

Kunming is apparently a place to visit. The photos are gorgeous and the history and culture are impressive.

A Chinese friend just back to California from a fabulous trip to mainland China and is telling me all about it and it sounds amazing but… I need to sleep.

Evil is an awful thing.

I was excited to learn of a Black History month event being held by a community agency I know well. When I went to register the invite said: "We are crafting an experience that relies on the participation of everyone, thus we kindly ask that you only register if you are certain you can attend." ...

Cool flag and hilarious alt text. As a mostly-lapsed Catholic, this feels like one hell of a time for the choosing of a new pope. Hope the red frocks choose well when the time comes. Until then, wishing Francis well. If he gets through this, I hope he recovers his capacity and strength.

This BPD article starts with this awful view: "Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a mental disorder with a high burden on patients, family members, and health-care systems." The use of words like burden to describe BPD lead to the poor tx many of us face./ www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

“Resist” is sitting less and less well with me of late. Among other things resistance can imply some kind of appeal or temptation. “Dismiss” and “defy” both seem more effective mental frames for what we are facing in the world right now.

Hegseth's tattoos got a lot of attention, but of course he denied they were racist. What probably should have gotten more attention: He belongs to a church that teaches slavery was the pinnacle of race relations. dougwilsonbelieves.com/beliefs/sout...

It’s not like I always experience people in my dreams in a way that makes their complexion memorable, but whenever I do, as I did in a yoga class in a dream last night, it’s like being back in Jamaica, where I was born and grew up—White people were a small minority.

It is amusing and reassuring to me that even after more than thirty years living in North America there are rarely White people in my dreams.

"If he sticks to the nonsense he has spread for the past two decades, children will die — publicly, with their grieving parents interviewed on camera, regretting their decisions not to vaccinate."

Trump’s tendency to fall out with his subordinates became a constant theme of his last presidency. He’s started early this time. He blames everyone but himself. Staffing is going to be a shitshow. Given how things went down last time, it amazes me that people are still prepared to work for him.

Your regular reminder that the more often you own your mistakes, the easier it gets. It is like any muscle-- work it more and it gets stronger. All people mess up, and sometimes we do so publicly. It's not the end of the world to acknowledge that we missed the mark; it's how we clean up.

What frightens me looking into the future, and based on the current state of the world, is a Trump - Putin - Xi alliance. I do feel Xi is a more honorable negotiating partner than either Trump or Putin, but they are all greedy, autocratic, power-hungry men. Skilled diplomacy feels crucial now.

"@duanebratt.bsky.social said the premier’s attempt to reframe the narrative missed the mark by casting blame on AHS for getting in the way of health reform. “This isn’t about reforming. This is about political interference in health-care contracts,”" edmonton.citynews.ca/2025/02/20/a...

I am not getting to sleep early enough but it’s not a bipolar thing (I don’t think, though bipolarity probably isn’t helping). I think it’s more that I am under a fair deal of stress and get pleasure and relief from doing pointless but entertaining things late into the night. Gonna try to sleep now.

My housemate, who never disturbs me, knocked on my door because he was so excited and needed to share his joy that Canada won the hockey game tonight.
