There are 77 million reasons why Canadians shouldn’t even begin to consider travelling to the US. We should assume a Canadian passport or license plate puts a target on our back by these people.
Autocrats pick up foreigners and put them in gulags to torture. Good reason to not visit America right now. We can't afford to bail fools out. So if one goes to America, they should be personally responsible for the costs of (perhaps) getting out. You've been warned. It's not America anymore.
The downturn in travel volume is reflected in air fares: the lady sitting next to me at the Leafs @ Panthers game last week flew in from Toronto because her round trip ticket was $146 CDN.
Seems like you’re being awfully alarmist about the early warning signs easily recognizable from past authoritarian crackdowns when the *next* authoritarian crackdown hasn’t even happened yet. Checkmate.
Fear runs the rw platform. Primitive thinking. They have not evolved beyond the reptilian brain. Everything they don’t understand is considered a threat, and they are not curious enough to get educated. Only want to destroy it. PP is complicit.

1. The dollar exchange
2. Potential time in a US Jail
3. Potential time in a El Salvador jail
4. Canadian patriotism
5. Protesting Trump regime
6. Invasion of my private cell phone info at border
7. Danger of running into MTG and turning into stone
The current USA regime plainly does not consider itself bound to provide consular access to foreign citizens ( aliens) they detain for any reason. Trump says he can send you to rot for rest of your life in solitary in El Salvador (or any improbable location). Too bad if you are tortured or killed.
At all! I won’t be going for a very very long time. Maybe decades. 1st off there are way too many other places to go. 2nd I don’t see them as allies any longer. Let alone friends.
Trying to figure out why Canada hasn't yet issued a travel warning. Is it a mix of geopolitical considerations + corporate pressure (triggering a tsunami of cancellation benefits payouts from travel insurance companies)?
I wonder about this. And I keep hearing the same old things I heard when the government stopped warning people about Covid. People in my community say, "The government would tell us if it wasn't safe, so we are going to go ahead with our plans." Lots of survivor bias too. "We were fine so go ahead!"
I don’t understand why we at least go to the yellow “take extra precautions” level at least, which we already have with several friendly countries in Europe. The extra precautions not just about gun violence but also visa documentation and “enhanced” border crossing procedures.
You raise a good point. And it might not just be about making waves. It might also be something to do with the caretakers' convention & who needs to be involved in the decision-making here. Maybe? 1/2
Yrs ago, I spent a lot of time reading IRPA's procedural fine print when I was focused on an immigration matter. (I can be a real PIA.) There was an escalation process for what were/could become high-profile cases.
We don't know what's involved w/raising the risk level on our most important ally.
Just about the 30-day thing, I believe. And something fairly vague (don't have time to check now.) But they have not adjusted the risk level and that's an important piece.
With the big T word it's almost a distraction for having to deal with how this whole antagonistic scenario affects real lives. Something that yeah, in an election cycle, could put the focus squarely on social policy.
The US will never recover from this unless they effect changes to their Constitution, laws regarding gerrymandering & voting rights & reverse Citizens United at the first available opportunity. Then again the Equal Rights Amendment still hasn’t been ratified - 50+ years & counting so faint hope eh.
You're right but first we have to get rid of the Orange Menace.
Believe me, there are millions and millions of us who see this disaster for what it is. We tried to help people understand what they were voting for but they are brainwashed and in a cult.
We love Canada and hate this administration.
I am so sorry but you are absolutely correct. All Canadians and the rest of the world should not come to the US now. Hopefully we can defeat Trump, the complicit Republicans and the billionaire bros but it is not safe here until we do.
Not only that, but with Trump's favorability rating at around 48%, it means that statistically every second person you meet is a raging bigot, a Christo fascist, a white supremacist, a cruel misogynist, or all of the above.
It is a revolutionary act of solidarity in resisting the nazi regime taking over the U S.
Do not go to the USA for any reason. Wind down your business interactions.

Not that it's an excuse, but also, this is some unprecedented shit in our time.
I hope this is upgraded to meet the clear and present threat the US has become.
