Watching Star Wars: Andor, there was a Pärt knockoff so egregious it took me right out of one of the show’s emotional peaks

Of course, now I’m not finding a source for this story, which I heard decades ago—what I’m seeing online is that he just gave the pieces to Williams as a temp track

It’s not just influence—Darnielle knows his classics!—I think he means that Lucas actually wanted Williams to edit those works for use in the movie, and Williams proposed writing a totally new, motivically unified score instead.

I distinctly remember reading a Radiohead FAQ in 1996 that observed that the band was most likely joking when they said that they had named themselves after "the least annoying song on True Stories" since the song is, in fact, "quite annoying." Gotta love the movie version tho

I really appreciated how he really balanced bringing his craft and tradition to the wider musical world while still representing it as he learned it. Just found this wkcr video: youtu.be/nJgDGhwkvzs?... The Kora is such a magnificent and subtle instrument. I could (& will) listen to this all day.

Yeah people were really disturbed by that. “Rhyming Dracula with superstar? What are you, Australian??” It was considered appropriative
