If transgender service members don't voluntarily agree to resign, they'll be forced by the Defense Department to repay the signing bonuses they received at enlistment. Not only will they be fired, they'll be punished with thousands of dollars in debt. All for attempting to serve their country.

Everyone comparing the possibility of Trump ordering the Army to shoot protestors to the Kent State massacre needs to get a sense of scale. Kent State was dozens of shots in a few seconds, killed four, and stopped. A subset of National Guardsmen did it on their own, not under a presidential order.

The main ideological tension in conservative politics — between social conservatives and economic libertarians — was papered over for a long time because the economy's winners were mainly center-rightish white men anyway.

Someone asks about this every time and no. "I will deliberately sabotage my own job and lie to my audience because I think it will be good for my employers' bottom line several years from now" is much weirder, less-held belief than "I like Trump and want to help him" bsky.app/profile/scot...

6/ Russia also appears to be relying on a charm offensive toward Washington to obscure its deep commitment to weakening the US and its friends and allies around the world. The Trump administration should be clear-eyed about this larger Russian threat.
