We ended up getting two small chest freezers over the course of peak COVID lockdowns, thanks to technology connections 😅 Honestly zero regret, though. We keep them stocked up whenever we can

I can't find any specific news stories or PR announcements - but it seems like all the Taco Bell locations near me at least are bereft of the green!

Yup yup, Fire Eagle from Brickhouse, the cool kids who managed to get out of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara :)

These days, I have a Tempest machine of my own in the basement and a stereo system well stocked with the works of Rush

Try something like Bazzite Linux. It's meant for a Steam Deck, but it runs fine on a desktop PC. Nearly everything I've tried playing works fine, especially from Steam. Notably, alas, nothing from Game Pass except cloud play, since that has a hard reliance on Windows. Also anti-cheat can be a bear

Not to be too much of a Linux reply-guy but: Back when the Recall stuff first started making the news rounds, I paved over my Windows 11 gaming PC with Bazzite Linux. It's been most of a year, most of my games work, and I don't regret it at all. Reboot to get updates, no sysadmin work, boring OS

But also, I’m 2/3 through reading @byzantienne.bsky.social ‘s Rose/House. That will probably talk me out of my “AI Smart Home Installer” daydream

A part of me is daydreaming about trying "AI Smart Home Installer" as my retirement job.
You know, getting paid to wander into folks' homes, ask them about their routines & habits, install Home Assistant in a fancy box bolted to a basement wall.
Since this is a daydream, I'm ignoring the rest

Yeah, that's likely true... but seems like if Google & Apple & Samsung & etal. want to grow the market - working on Matter is good, but training installers might also be good

Dumb question on all this: Why hasn't "Smart Home Installer" become a trade profession? Why fret so hard over consumer end-user ease-of-use for getting this stuff connected & automated when I didn't do that for getting my plumbing, furnace, solar, or water heater installed? Like, I'm handy but busy

I didn't install my plumbing or water heater or furnace or solar panels. Why is the smart home stuff aimed at end-users? That sounds like a job for professionals

I can see that discman sitting on the seat next to me in my car, velcro'd to some heavy gel pad thing to keep it from flying around, plugged into the tape adapter in the head unit
