The first image is a recent post by President Trump, quoting Napoleon. The second image is of Longwood, on the island of St Helena, where Napoleon was imprisoned for his crimes. He died here. I had the pleasure of visiting and taking this picture about 10 years ago. May all dictators die in prison.

These are the dems that voted to confirm the guy that just handed the Treasury to Musk: Blunt Rochester Booker Cantwell Coons Fetterman Gallego Gillibrand Hassan Hickenlooper Kaine Kelly King (Independent) Peters Shaheen Slotkin Warner

FBI agents are stunned by the scale of Donald Trump’s expected purge of the bureau, which could include hundreds of agents and officials, @shaneharris.bsky.social reports.

I do not recall a 24 hour or one week news cycle with more disturbing news about the state of the presidency and the US government in it than those of today and the past seven days. January 6 was nothing compared to this. But make no mistake, this too is the gov't being torn apart by a mob of thugs.

"The sofa beds have been installed so the team can work around the clock, the employee said." This is a coup, happening right in front of us, staged by people who know nothing at all about the US government. Which is, it bears remembering, the only one we have. www.reuters.com/world/us/mus...

The Trump administration is scrubbing the CDC’s website of documents on reproductive rights issues, sexual health, intimate partner violence, and more. I'm trying to save them. You can find the deleted docs at cdcguidelines.com - I'll be adding more over the weekend.

This is what authoritarian and totalitarian regimes do: Codify official public blame against others regardless of their own culpability. Sometimes the scapegoat is political rivals or Jews or minorities or women or trans people or DEI or CRT or Freemasons or liberals/Leftists or trade unions, etc.

Insanity: The deportation flights Trump used military jets for—that Mexico refused to accept—cost the U.S. up to $852,000 per flight to attempt to deport just 80 migrants at a time. To compare, flights directly chartered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement cost just $8,577.

In my opinion, to stop Trump, we will need a number of Congressional Republicans (or win both houses in 2 years). We will also need significant numbers of Trump voters to turn on him. I think they will when they realize that his "brilliant plans" all come at their expense. (cont.)

The way I see it, there are two paths to dictator ship: 1) You can do things the people want, make lots of promises, and have most of them behind you, and just don't let go of the reins as you gradually loot the country. This is the path Marcos, Hitler, and Mussolini started with. Or:

NEW—Trump WH has blocked all CDC science reports (eg MMWR) & suspended all CDC / FDA / NIH external communications of all HHS agencies until further notice... including all FDA & CDC Health Alert warnings & all social media. Public health be damned. Gift 🎁 link: wapo.st/4aqfN44

A suggestion to fellow progressives in the US: After seeing posts saying Trump is a pussy for moving the inauguration indoors, or that he is doing it because crowd size will be small, and many other portraying everything about Trump as negatively as possible:

Jeff Bezos' Washington Post editorial board has endorsed Pam Bondi as a "qualified" and "serious" pick for Attorney General. Nowhere in the endorsement did they mention that she's a former Amazon lobbyist. Billionaire control of our media is a threat to democracy.

Hey Greenland, you might want to chat with Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands to see how the US treats their other colonies. Not that I believe this lying ass, but still.... Hell, skip that. Just ask any of the 41% of Americans who have medical debt. And ask Denmark if they want to buy the VI back!

"Being wrong can be dangerous, but being right, when society regards the majority’s falsehood as truth, could be fatal.” Thomas Szasz

The economy is growing, real wages are rising, inflation has fallen to close to its normal range, unemployment is at near-historic lows, and energy production is at historic highs. The economy has added more than 700,000 manufacturing jobs among the 16 million total created since 2020. H Richardson

Trump, DECEMBER 28, 2024: "I have always been in favor of the visas... I’ve been a believer in H-1B... It’s a great program" Trump, MARCH 15, 2016: "I know the H1B very well... We shouldn’t have it. Very, very bad for workers... it’s unfair for our workers. And we should end it."

So Trump is threatening to take the Panama Canal back, is talking about Canada becoming the 51st state, and want's to take Greenland from Denmark. And most people are just acting like this is just his crazy talk, and it won't ever happen. But I say, not so fast dismissing it.

ONLY AN ABSOLUTE HORROR OF A HUMAN BEING WOULD DO THIS… Republicans slashed $200 million for childhood cancer research—a program created with bipartisan support under Obama—from the CR bill. Why? Because Elon Musk told them to.

College freshman today were 6 years old in the 2012 election. A student of mine (age 20) told me after class that he appreciates when I explain how US politics and media were different before, because the Trump era is all he’s seen. This is what young Americans think politics is. It’s normal now.

Latest Substack is up. I was wondering whether it would be hard to find enough to write about; in fact there's so much crazy stuff that I can't keep up. open.substack.com/pub/paulkrug...

The first time in recent memory that Nobel laureates banded together against a Cabinet choice, 75 of them tell the Senate confirming RFK Jr. would endanger the public’s health. Ya think?! www.nytimes.com/2024/12/09/h...

Of all of Elon Musks companies, the cheapest one he’s purchased is the Republican Party.

I think they misspelled "persecute".
