People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative. A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

If Jesus had focused more on kitchen table issues and less on unpopular outcasts like lepers and prostitutes, he might have won more support from white working-class Judeans.

The very best of America’s shitposters are now outgunned by their Chinese peers. Balance of power has shifted.

[it's hip to be square voice] it's fine to be cringe

I think it's bad that the country is led by people who haven't had a real problem in their entire lives and couldn't get a regular job due to being too weird

The reason I'm hitting myself in the head with a big cartoon mallet is that the people who told me not to do that were condescending. "That's gonna hurt dumbass" they sneered. Well it doesn't hurt and in fact I think it may be helping my asthma

The past four Republican administrations have tanked the US economy. But I know multiple Democrats who include their pronouns in the footer of their emails. I have never felt more politically homeless.

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.” -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." -Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1953

I blame George W. Bush. He softened America up to the idea that we could have someone stupid in the White House and things would still function.

Wow who could’ve guessed that this would happen It’s almost as if USAID was a pillar of American soft power and influence in the world It’s almost as if it was entirely predictable that America’s adversaries would work to fill the void left by USAID’s destruction

it’s so cool that all of the Silicon Valley right wing freaks obsessed with living forever are replacing our best-in-the -world medical research institutions with Steak n’ Shake beef tallow fries

traveling in and reporting on the Nordics has really soured me on American style subcultural bohemian leftism. actually existing egalitarian institutions rely on a lot of dutiful, virtuous, boring ass bureaucrats

if the united states ever has even a hope of recovering we have to destroy the idea of american individualism. "they don't owe you anything" we owe each other everything actually

hard for me to give much rope to the idea that private business is more efficient than government when it now takes 7 years to make 8 half hour episodes of a TV show

Just so everybody understands, Booker has been speaking cogently about the issues the entire time and Strom Thurmond famously spent hours reading from the encyclopedia, because segregationists were and are dumbshits

WATCH: Sen. Cory Booker has broken the record for the longest U.S. Senate speech. Booker's marathon speech breaks the previous record — Sen. Strom Thurmond's filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1957 that stretched for 24 hours and 18 minutes.

Official Statement: Miles 'Tails' Prower

WASHINGTON (AP) — Cory Booker breaks the record for longest Senate speech, previously held by segregationist Strom Thurmond.

How it started // how it's going

Big-city police forces are janissaries. Rural police are mostly straight up organized crime syndicates.

yet another 'fake debate, real debate' thing. fake debate: are people blank slates or are things like intelligence heritable to some degree? real debate: are the untermensch subhuman? it is Fine, Actually for there to be pretty strong norms about having to be cautious about some topics.

So, like, it's really clear that the GOP is trying to isolate us from the rest of the world like an abusive stepdad.

WHO'S HUNGRY NOW, BITCH?

Sometimes you just have to ask—why? The Senate voted to strike down a rule capping most bank overdraft fees at $5, a measure introduced by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that was expected to save Americans billions each year.

Not getting much attention, but the Senate GOP is about to start voting - to make sure banks can charge higher overdraft fees. Seriously. Good time to let your Senators know what you think of that.

Never, ever accept that these people give one shit about your kids. They send cops into your schools to arrest the people who care for them. They love the cops, not your kids.
