I read your essay. Right now I have to distract myself because of all the nights I've lain awake until 3 or 4 am. I suppose it was during those sleepless hours that I was checking in with myself and I'm not ok. I don't know when I will be ok. The future looks very dark indeed.

Our daughter studied Hebrew at a Jewish Community Center not long after a gunman shot grandmothers and children in a JCC in San Fernando Valley. I'm an Army Vet. We discussed what to do with an active shooter. I knew every exit and window in that building. No one should have to plan for that.
