I wouldn't be surprised that there is other things at play behind this but from that limited amount of information, it seems he has balls.

Don't imagine we'd be treated just like any American. They won't risk this bunch of woke snow niggers up north voting out their deal leader.

As Canadian, I am still way more worried about the health and safety of Americans than I am for all Canadians. It's going to suck for some people here for a while but, at least, our government is not actively putting us in danger.

... I went with FastMail. ProtonMail would have been the first on the list had it not been managed by a sympathizer.

Absolutely right. There is some sleazy money to be made but not everyone will take that bait.

Yeah, objectively, Shitter is probably worth more now...because of the corruption potential. Not sure that's something to use to grow an ailing business, though.

"barely breaking even" is way better than I would have expected. I thought, or maybe hoped, that X was swimming in deep red water.

Soyons réaliste, beaucoup trop de gens comprennent ce qui se passe et en profitent pour que tous en subissent des conséquences. Si quelques mauvais larront finissent en prison, tant mieux, mais, tristement, trop de complices discrets vont simplement disparaître.

But, nobody ever went that far with their calculations! That would be totally unprecedented! (More bitter sarcasm)

Oh my it's like your resurrected Jeebus again. I would vote for some kind of Dinosaur, since we're in 2025.

If Windows starts getting in the way, I'm sure going to nuke it and install Linux again. For now, though, I can't say it does. Maybe I don't expect much of it, being that it's just my personal entertainment machine.

Big part of why I'm not switching my personal computer away from Windows is sheer laziness I must admit... ... but I also want to stop so strongly identifying to the OS I'm using. A operating is also tool and if the tool does the job it's supposed to do, why change it?

Good job on putting numbers on that. I knew it was unavoidable but lacked the information to math it. That there are going to be concentration camps is unavoidable. The step from that to death camp isn't much once those camps get overcrowded.

FFS Microsoft... It's just 30 minutes ago that I was saying that I was fine staying with Windows 11. You're making me regret this.

I use WSL extensively at work and I have a bunch of computers, big and small, that I can run Linux on. It's not like I miss it.

As long as I can disable things I don't want to deal with, I won't switch back. The computer, a laptop, is working perfectly in Windows. I know getting to work just as good in Linux isn't going to be quite as simple. Office tho? No need for that. Not that it's bad: I just don't need to use it.
comment in response to post
... oh wow they were totally going to do that to my monthly subscription too. I'm not going to get rid of Windows 11 yet but I sure don't need Office.
comment in response to post
They are totally going to be sued for that, right?

Yeah well I am not going to follow this thread further now. I was mostly just saying I don't like to speak in absolutes faced with somebody like Trump. I don't really want to lay out surrender plans for an hypothetical way either.

I really don't want the government to treat the threats as unserious though. They need to look beyond the tarriffs threats and plan for what might come next. That plan needs to include possibilities that might be very remote.

That makes a good case about the scale of the endeavour and the incompetence of USA but fails to totally convince me. I am not yet going to lose sleep over that but the instability of the guy prevents me from thinking we're entirely safe from stupid military actions.

Certitudes are certainly comforting. I don't share it, though. I hope some people at the Canadian gov. are also taking it seriously and examining all possible consequences of those threats, however remote the possibilities might be.

At this point, this is not an a random threat. He probably really believes this is a choice we can just make. He's going to be pissed out that we don't take his deal. I'm personally going to try not to stress out about this but our government should certainly be making contingency plans right now.

So if we agree to accept a bigger punishment, he's going to unleash a lesser one.... ? Tough call!

NFTs came down hard and quick because it involves real money from its users and that made the scam way very quickly obvious. AI did not ask for my money yet. It's just there if people want to use it. It's going to crash & burn for being unprofitable, but not because people feel it's a scam.

Nice strawman. We humans can actually count the 'r's in "strawberry", and when told "2" is wrong, we say "3" without needing a multi-million dollar training process.

Oh thank you, and, Good! Let's hope they won't change their mind.

Couldn't reddit, the company, decide to revert that somehow? Sounds like it's something that could happen.

Whaaa... Karl... you mean you think that a just-slightly-under-plain-evil billionaire won't save us from oligarchy? OMG!
comment in response to post
Oh ffs thanks for clarifying that. I saw people raving about this and I didn't get why.
