proud of this latest podcast by @csahq.bsky.social Vital Times podcast series: an interview with UCSF Anesthesiology's Dr. Marilyn Harper, who joined the dept in the 1970s. Her ground-breaking perseverance and grace are awe-inspiring. @asamonitor.bsky.social www.buzzsprout.com/2009442/epis...

Hot off the presses - and the FDA approval process! - hear about suzetrigine, a first-in-class novel analgesic

A huge honor and occasion for me today: got to speak on the workplace culture in the PeriOperative space and using soft skills to negotiate it, at the ASA ADVANCE 2025 practice management meeting. #anesthesiology #MedEd

RIP, Cecile Richards. What a classy line of incredible women.

Aoife says, "Merry Christmas!!! ... and... where's my treat?"

I'm a Program co-chair for the California Society of Anesthesiologists' Annual Meeting April 4-6 2025 at Disneyland. The program includes something for everyone: clinical pearls in all sub-specialties, leadership, workplace culture, and workshops. 18 CME credits! csahq.org/events/csa-2...

Nice summary of why Anesthesiologists are essential cogs in the wheels of the surgery process. www.sciencenews.org/article/time...

does the US - and do the American people - have enough healthcare dollars to care for all these future polio victims? are those old photographs of iron lung hospital wards not enough of a warning? what's the endgame here?

new California Society of Anesthesiologists' Vital Times Podcast episode hot off the presses! A discussion about Collegiality, with two Kaiser Permanente physicians passionate about building that culture. www.buzzsprout.com/2009442/epis... @csahq.bsky.social

A doctor discusses how #Anesthesiologists comfort patients during the surgery. Listen Here: ow.ly/pb5e50Unzy8

re-posting so that Dr. Mass gets a bigger audience.

This post is exactly why physicians are burning out and quitting. I’ve spent 30 years as an anesthesiologist, studying and training, getting up at 4am daily, being at my best for my patients. And random people decide they know more about my job than I do, and call us frauds. Peachy.

The California Society of Anesthesiologists is surveying what CA anesthesiologists - want from it. From legislative advocacy, to practice management, to clinical pearls and emotional support - the CSA needs to help build a sustainable future. Please participate. www.surveymonkey.com/r/csamember2...

@jtrebach.bsky.social please opine on this tragedy out of S. Africa. I honestly am not ready for more sadness right now, but... www.nytimes.com/2024/11/23/w...

Kudos to @stanfordanes.bsky.social for this App, which in real time can help an anesthesiologist calculate the environmental costs of an anesthetic. We can all do our own bit in lessening the human impact on our planet. ethergreen.app/dl/da19fa @csahq.bsky.social

this is going to come off as petty and snippy, and I regret that. But... we picked a man with a hole in his frontal lobe as the leader of the HHS and the NIH???!!!

how do we alter course, and return to empathy, kindness and mutualism as operating values of our society? it would be swimming upstream, wouldn't it? We currently are more about material success, gladiatorial victories, and casting off the weak. We need a Deus Ex Machina plot device, STAT.

I need someone in the UK to tape this documentary for me. I was obsessed with Hvaldimir. www.bbc.com/news/article...

I want to say something smart and charismatic, but I got nothing. I’m grateful for a new space, though, where we collectively can share medical knowledge, communicate it, and discuss workplace culture and empathy. Oh, and hopefully also glean some good tennis and running news. #MedSky

I am interested in workplace culture in modern medicine; it reflects the bigger picture of our American society, which seems to have cast aside empathy. This 2-episode arc in our Vital Times podcast discusses the Empathy Deficit, with a UCLA Anthropology Prof. www.buzzsprout.com/2009442/epis...
