Finally, microbiota-driven hunger might be an exciting area of research, but it is important to highlight that the role of gut microbes in obesity development is unclear (and the evidence is weak) - nicely discussed by @matthewjdalby.bsky.social here πŸ‘‡ 5/5 royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...

Second, the foundation supporting hedonic overeating as a key driver of obesity has some serious cracks. These cracks are important to explore further, imo, if we want a better understanding of obesity pathogenesis. See this one as an example πŸ‘‡ 4/5 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27988248/

First, various lines of evidence suggest that metabolic differences between individuals might explain why some develop obesity - and therefore eat more than others. Summarized here πŸ‘‡ 3/5 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

We reacted to a review on β€œThe Physiology of Hunger" written by an author that had not really published on this topic before. A bit weird. Anyway, the review described three types of hunger: 1) homeostatic, 2) hedonic, and 3) microbiotic. 2/5 www.nejm.org/doi/full/10....
