And by the way (this story is still driving me nuts) there are more than "two nations" in the Great Lakes region whose borders are established by "agreements and conventions," despite what the Times says. The Ojibwe, for example, ceded territory in 1854 but are still a sovereign nation.

It should go without saying (but here I am saying it): Trump can't "tear up" the treaties. He can:
a) renegotiate them, but that takes time, expertise, and a willing second party;
b) violate them, in which case he ends up:
(i) at the ICJ (yes, he belongs in the Hague, but not there)
or
(ii) at war.

The Trump administration's push for mining on the edge of the Boundary Waters now becomes part of a larger, unapologetic territory and resource grab. This belligerence casts the story I've been following for the past -- what? decade? -- in a harsh new light. Trying to get my head around this.

What this boils down to, once again, is “rigged.” Somebody behind the scenes, this time controlling not the vote tallies but the market response to his madness.

cue the George Carlin routine: "now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They’ll get it."

Well imagine. You sell your soul and your reputation to Trump for a cabinet position. And then you say: now I get my part of the deal. Power. A fiefdom.

Also worth considering:
2018: Apple's market capitalization was $746B.
2021: $2.9 trillion.
Today: $3.73 trillion.
So market cap rose almost 3 trillion since 2018.
Commitment rose $150B over that same period.

You’ll also notice that the people questioning and complaining about the thuggery are almost all women.

By the way the nutritional supplements I ordered from you last month still have not arrived. I’d like to know what’s going on.
