This is astounding coming from the chair of the @rcgp. Stating that PAs should be able to ‘train in General Practice’, is insulting to GPs who have to train for 10+ years. It also disregards the recent council vote, of which 61% agreed to oppose the role. This is not the fault of any PA.

We have a recruitment and retention crisis in the NHS. Highly trained staff are leaving because they are unable to tolerate the poor pay and conditions anymore. Issues with retaining NHS staff will hamper reforms and also lower productivity. Change is desperately needed.

IMHO individual PAs are well meaning people who have been misled. The PA role is under trained for the tasks it is deployed to meet. This is very much a policy and system issue, and not an individual PA issue. Patients, ordinary PAs, grass roots doctors and public have all been misled.
