I'd be very interested in hearing more about this. If you ever write a blog post or article on your experience/the responses you've received, I'd love to read it. Best of luck in the heartless querying trenches!

I didn't jump to the Story Graph because I never thought it seemed well-designed, but I made a little Excel sheet to track reading goals this year and I'm v happy with it so far. I'll just have to shout loud and proud about the books I really love this year in lieu of using book review sites.

Ooh thanks for explaining. That is beyond weird. It's bad enough for them to use AI that's saying offensive things without human oversight.

This is from the Story Graph?! I just saw that Fable had to stop their use of AI after it was trash talking readers for seeking out Black authors, among other things. Everything is GenAI slip rn.

Also: Pouring water over snow works wonders for clearing it away pretty effortlessly, including ice. Not sure why we don't do this where I live. Salt is both harmful and ineffective.

On the east coast of the US, we wait until the storm is over before mostly sending our dads and teenagers out to shovel.
So this morning I was the only one on my block out at 7, clearing the sidewalk. Funny because I groaned about how I missed quiet, lazy snow days when I lived in Japan.

Same here! I went show to book and skipped the movie. Hated book 1 and couldn't get past the first 50 pages of book 2, but I do think what I read gave me even more appreciation for the show. I love how they managed to adapt the "essence" of Louis while making him 1000x more interesting imo.

The first book is very unlike the TV show, just as a heads up. (Like, Louis is a white slaveowner, for starters.)

Yes! It scratched a summer/Halloween vibe I got last June.

Summer of '84 (2018): Boy thinks a serial killer lives next door. One of those movies where the only female character is such a sexist cardboard cutout that I assumed it was a parody and she would end up mattering to the plot. But nope.
Still kind of enjoyable if you're in the mood for it.

Sorry. Tbh I feel like they put all the nudity in the trailer. It's not like that for 90 mins lol.

The Wind that Shakes the Barley (2006).
Slow-moving and pretty ruthless in its violence, but really excellent film about the Irish War of Independence. Think it might've been Cillian Murphy's first starring role. One of my favorite films I've seen this year.

Rotting in the Sun (2023). Great black comedy about this complete asshole, Sebastián Silva, acting like a huge dick all over Mexico City and then geting what's coming to him. Directed by Sebastián Silva.
(Warning for very R-rated movie/trailer.)

Viva Cuba (2005): 2 kids run away and travel across Cuba. Apparently Americans dislike this film because they're mostly introduced to it in Spanish classes, but I think school just makes everything seem bad. It's a good movie! + neat to see a country USians can't visit.
