Here in Canada, we have two parties which reflect the values of the US Dems: the centrist Liberals and the progressive NDP. Splitting the left vote has sometimes led to right-wing govs but our greatest progress as a nation has happened when the centre was beholden to the left for votes.

Imagine declining an opportunity to speak to the people whose votes you wish to earn and who you hope to represent. Unless, of course, you believe you will win without their votes and that you do not represent them.

I do not believe that my vote only counts if I vote for the winning candidate, or that voting Green is 'throwing away your vote'. Now more than ever, we need to stick to our principles and not be swayed by lesser evil arguments.

And yet at 7am yesterday I saw a sidewalk pushplow madly clearing snow along Sherbrooke near Goodfellow. Perhaps for all the Tallwood residents taking transit?

The Liberal Party campaigns left and governs right. The idea of vote-splitting presupposes that NDP and Liberals find common cause. But Liberals say one thing and do another. Jeff Leal may as well be Daryl Bennett. The strongest candidate in our riding is clearly Jen Deck, hands down.
