Fully on board with dems running for office promising to reinstate fired federal employees and jail this administration’s various criminals, but let’s go ahead and add “we will seize by eminent domain any national parkland sold to developers”

Society is judged by the way it treats its most vulnerable. How we treat our children - from the underfunding of public schools to the failing DPS and foster system to the deprivation of basic rights in the juvenile justice system - TN is morally bankrupt by every measure. We must fight for change.

It's not manufacturing jobs you want, it's a stable job with a middle-class wage, retirement, affordable health insurance, and worker protections that you want. Which isn't naturally tied to factory jobs, but it is naturally tied to union organizing.

“Trump has governed like a late-19th-century president, with his penchant for tariffs, his unusual relationship with a major industrial titan, and his bald-faced corruption,” writes Derek Thompson.

In that sense, AI will be no different from the Industrial Revolution: if the masses want to receive any of the economic benefits from new technology, rather than have it used as a tool to extract more from us, we will need to use collective action to force redistribution.

1. EXCLUSIVE An internal Social Security Administration memo, dated March 13 and obtained by Popular Information, lays out a plan to sabotage the agency. The memo itself predicts "service disruption," "operational strain," and "budget shortfalls" will result. Follow this thread for details. 🧵

This is shameful treatment of the brave men and women who exemplified service to their country and community. The only bright spot is that with every attempt to erase, more people know these heroes’ names and will carry the memory of their contributions forward further than ever. Remember and share.

A little good news on the timeline. Something good DID happen today!

As much as soc security and Medicare are lightning rods, I think this one will galvanize the right wing working class. Growing up in blue collar South, I learned our nat’l parks & museums were part of American greatness because they belonged to the People. Just like SS, this is taking what’s ours.

Going great

everything is so shitty, read this story about a genuinely good man who saw he had an opportunity to save millions of lives and threw himself into doing so. the world is full of heroes like him.

Honestly same

I appreciate this. But the loss of public goods and expertise is a harm to the nation. Privatization will not avert the harm. Essential services left to the highest bidder degrades the foundation needed for a healthy, sustainable nation.

The term that makes sense to me is "evangelical capitalists." They believe if you can afford something you deserve it no matter how you got the money and if you can't buy it you don't deserve it, even food & medicine, no matter what external forces prevent you from having the money.

What if, and I know this sounds crazy, but what if the federal workforce was actually doing a really good job before all this bullshit?

1000x THIS. Government exists to provide the services that make for a thriving economy when everyone in society has access to them (infrastructure, education, safety, etc.). The Civil Service is one of our greatest strengths as a nation.

"My British friend reminded me that America is still a young nation. But we’re also the world’s oldest constitutional republic. The world relies on us. Imperfect as it is, that old sheet of parchment is as much a moral document as it is a legal one." michaelianblack.substack.com/p/teen-angst

This is in addition to the thousands of federal workers who felt pressured to take the resignation offer and thousands more who’ve had their lives upended by the draconian elimination of remote & telework agreements. The decimation and demoralization of the US Civil Service will have global impacts

I’ll add a 3rd pillar: that our strength comes from the underdog, the everyday man standing up in the face of a mighty & unjust power imbalance. I wonder when/if this Norman Rockwell haze within US identity will galvanize the “regular Joe’s” to take back their power from the modern day robber barons

This segment on the value and nat sec origins of MEDICAID is worth a listen. The connection to why this matters to everyone and how cuts will impact non-recipients’ wallets is clearly stated for the “not my problem”/low information crowd. Please share with the Efficiency! proponents in your sphere.

Silicon Valley in general has it, but Musk has particular contempt for jobs where the goal isn't to impress anybody, it's to never screw up. Such jobs are inevitably done best with some overlap and redundancy, which upsets them even more. But cutting those jobs means more catastrophes.

I think there’s a huge divide between finance, where many believe this, and actual professions where these claims are comically untrue.

Im an unabashed patriot. I love this country. I love these people, the fact that we're a nation of immigrants, and that our cuisine is an absolute madcap grab-bag of everything from everywhere. I love the "purple mountains majesty" and "bring me your tired." I love what America could be.

Public education is the backbone of American democracy. In the richest country in the history of the world, we cannot abandon our teachers and our public schools.

“A dark day… today we all lose….” Shuttering U.S.A.I.D. is impacting the soybean industry — Tennessee’s #1 cash crop, contributing billions to our economy. More: arec.tennessee.edu/wp-content/u...

This I love. And resemble more each day.
