Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (2024) A fantastic experience that still holds up today, this remake mostly preserves what made it work, and sprinkles some QoL that makes some sections of the game much smoother (Chapters 4/7, notably). Chapter 6 is still a drag, and 30 FPS is a small shame.

The Owl House (Season 3) Essentially a finale-movie, it managed to wrap up most of the show's threads in a satisfying manner. Legitimately makes the rest of the show even better.

The Owl House (Season 2) Definitely stumbles at the start, but really picks up over time, many characters who were... weaker parts of the show early on really got to shine here. The show's rather abrupt approach to character arcs continues here, but it ultimately turned out well in the end.

Many of its gameplay elements (affection, partner pokemon, wild catch system) make the game more frictionless, but less engaging to a non-beginner, I won't ever play this game normally, that's for sure. Hardly a highlight of the series, but I can't help but respect the experiment.

Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu A strange and novel remake of Pokemon RBY, played a challenge run with friends where we played it with slightly modified Nuzlocke Rules. Somehow the most polished Switch 1 Pokemon game. (1/2)

Epic: The Musical I finally got the chance to listen in on it, and yes... I get the hype. My memory on the Odessey was pretty hazy, so it was a fulfilling experience having it all come back to me. As someone with a love for mythology, drama and history, this hit the mark for me.

Super Hero Taisen Z It's just a string of fights and people getting saved by cameos. Pure, unadulterated slop with like... 10 minutes of plot. Awful even by Taisen movie standards.

The Hobbit (1977) A strange, but not altogether terrible adaptation of the book, I can definitely see myself putting this on in the background as I do work at home in the future, it's very cozy. This adaptation definitely hurts the dwarves though, as many of them have even LESS presence here.

Smiling Friends Some of the funniest shit I've seen in a long while, definitely don't suggest binging it in huge chunks, it's rather overstimulating. The Gwimbly and Brazil episodes are literal perfection.

The Owl House (Season 1) A well produced, sometimes great show with some pacing issues and a cast that kind of steps on eachother's toes in terms of role and personality. Really good when at its best, but not the most consistent show so far.

NASB2 was actually quite good at that, despite the first game's launch nuking the series' potential. Multiversus was mismanaged from head to toe, it's almost impressive how nothing seemed to click in place at all for it. Every aspect of MVS was scuffed.

Kamen Rider Faiz: Paradise Lost A film which depicts an alternate timeline of the show proper. It's pretty good, and is an effective companion piece to the show. This would've been very popular with western audiences if it came out during the early 10's YA dystopia boom.

Kamen Rider Faiz A recommendation that took me off-guard with how much it lived up to the glazing. I have a... checkered history with Tokusatsu to say the least, but this show wows with consistently excellent character work and grounded, resonant cinematography. Sometimes messy, often resonant.

I dislike the avatars, but yes; going back to traditional lords is not a 100% fix, because it's ultimately a matter of how a protagonist is written, like any other narrative work. I agree with you on this, let's not pretend that Roy, Seliph and Eliwood are dramatically better than an Avatar.

The redesign very much looks like a hybrid of 80's and "Modern" Donkey Kong.

A small part of me wonders if the WoW boom of the mid 2000's may have also contributed to this. That was the first time that addiction became something actively designed around and seriously noted. Combining that with MTX which came about a bit later resulted in a horrific formula.
