Leasing makes sense for me as a business expense. And what I don’t understand is why a dealership can give me a loaner when they service my car but won’t if I want to buy a car—especially if I’m signing the same papers as a loaner and leaving my current vehicle as collateral.

So i’m looking to lease a new car and i go to the dealership to see about the model i want. Salesman takes me for a test drive of about 15 minutes. I ask him if I could keep the car overnight and he looks at me funny as I suggested the most outlandish thing.

In my experience making TV (limited, comparatively, but representative), no one has ever pitched anything to “pad the runtime.” Hell, i’ve never worked in a show that had eps that were anything but too long. You might not like it, or it might’ve been executed poorly, but no one’s padding anything.

Conflict is drama. A buncha people getting along just fine is boring as fuck. The path towards satisfying drama is to find organic reasons for people to be on opposing sides. But, yeah, done poorly, anything can feel “needless.” But done well, it’s Deadwood or Ozark or Battlestar or Justified.
