Each time I have sat down to write something since the election, I am bothered by this recurring phrase that I simply cannot get out of my head. So,I am going to just say it out loud: we are on our own. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/we-a...

One and a half hours of factual analysis, of historical perspective, of real world examples. How many of "us" let alone "them" will devote the time needed to absorb it? youtube.com/watch?v=rkTk...

DOGE cut off payments for the electricity, cell phone, and internet service of U.S. government employees who work in a high-risk area in Central America. Meanwhile, DOGE apparently plans to spend $25,000 to install a washer and dryer for their own personal use in a federal office building in DC.

What a front cover...

Just a quick reminder, if Russia ceased firing there would be a cease fire

Russia’s leaders have said nothing about peace. They have made a list of demands on the US, the fulfillment of which allows them to broaden the war against Ukraine. And the US simply fulfills all of these Russian demands without question. That is only a peace process in the Orwellian sense.

What he said about Social Security payments has been repeatedly debunked - so the question isn’t whether he’s lying about this, the question is why. What is this a pretext for? He and the GOP have long shown interest in going after Social Security. What are they going to try?

Just a reminder—Trump is a pathological fucking liar. Pass it on.

America is back, baby.

You don't often see a complaint with an epigraph, let alone an epigraph with an epithet. (This is AP's amended complaint over its exclusion from the WH press pool, filed late last night. It's excellent.) storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

At last, the whole world got to see the ignorant bully I've known for years and the ways Donald Trump misbehaves in private. My latest for DCReport: www.dcreport.org/2025/03/03/t...

old Soviet joke for our times: Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to. Guy says: “looking for an obituary.” Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.” Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

A word about Conan O’Brien, who I’m lucky enough to know a little bit. He is extremely funny and has drawn people to him his whole life by his talent. But he is also amazingly kind, generous and collaborative. He gave dozens of people a start or a second chance. What’s Irish for mensch?

NEW from Bill Kristol: The Oval Office fiasco was not just about Ukraine, it's another step on the Trumpian path from America as a friend of democracies to America as "an unabashed predator." www.thebulwark.com/p/what-a-wee...

Correct. Europe now has the lead. (Our parents, WW II veterans, would find this hard to believe.)

The NYT article blaming Zelensky for annoying Trump was wrongheaded and I thought it needed a response. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Trump continues to show exactly who and what he is and it sickens my soul.

I think we have to agree that JD is such a sniveling little bitch.

A grassroots movement is calling on all Americans to abstain from shopping with major retailers tomorrow, February 28, as part of an “economic blackout.” I encourage you to join. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/boycott

So Trumpers, three options: He's senile. He's a liar. Or both.

A mafia-like struggle for global power has begun, with rules that do not suit America. Other countries are already planning for a lawless era econ.st/3DbeFFe

Katherine Graham stood up to Nixon. Jeff Bezos bows down to Trump. Decline is a choice.

Voted for Trump, now have buyer’s remorse? The Trump philosophy seems to be his version of FAFO. Don’t buy anything on the 28th unless you absolutely have to. #Resist

So increasing the minimum wage to a livable wage is “socialism”? But Amazon union busting, keeping wages low, and forcing workers onto public assistance while its founder increases his net worth by $7.9M an hour is the "free market"? Perhaps this could be a WaPo opinion piece.

“After years of yelling that the “Russia hoax” was a witch hunt, Trump is now openly colluding with Putin…The U.S. government is aligning itself with autocrats and oligarchs and attempting to rebuild our country in their image.” www.thebulwark.com/p/whether-fo...

The Justice Department is not the president's personal law firm. You are not his lawyers. The free press should be exactly that — free. If the facts they report don’t align with the president’s propaganda, tough. And this statement is a disgrace to the DOJ and the rule of law.

ICONIC: Yosemite National Park workers just hung an upside-down American flag—THOUSANDS of feet up on El Capitan. That’s not decoration. That’s a distress signal. They’re telling us the country is in danger. Are you paying attention? www.sfchronicle.com/outdoors/art...

in the trump administration, “merit” is pronounced “white” like how strom thrumond said it.

Five things I accomplished last week: 1. Sued Musk & DOGE (repeatedly) 2. Got Musk blocked out of Treasury 3. Sued Trump (repeatedly) 4. Helped persuade SCOTUS to leave anti-Trump injunction in place 5. Got booked @theweekendmsnbc.bsky.social Join us at 9 AM ET Sunday morning to discuss!

Demand your GOP congressman cut their budget and lay off some staff. Congress spends 6.4billion/year on their own operations.

Amen to that.

It's not about Brown, or Caine, or other individuals. It's not about reforming DOD . What it's about, at DOD and DOJ and the FBI and the intelligence community, is breaking all institutional resistance to Trump, and ensuring as much as is possible personal fealty to Trump.

— Accidentally fired workers trying to contain bird flu — Accidentally fired workers overseeing our nuclear stockpile — Accidentally fired workers providing health care to Native Americans “Accidentally.” More like gross incompetence and mismanagement. Opposite of efficient.

Punchbowl News reporting that Trump and Hegseth plan to start firing top generals, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, who was overwhelmingly Senate-approved for a 4-year term back in 2023. No one can say they weren’t warned.

Frightening!

🇺🇳 The United Nations does not consider Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy illegitimate, says Stéphane Dujarric, UN Secretary-General António Guterres' spokesperson.

Truth spoken to the puppet.

Governing is about choices. And we have a big choice ahead of us. We can choose to invest in our families. Our workers. Our future. Or we can choose to give another few trillion to those who need it least.

If Trump wants to see elections in Ukraine, all he has to do is use the power he keeps talking about to get the Russian invaders off Ukrainian soil. Then martial law in Ukraine ends, and elections will follow.

They have no moral center. They are harming people all over this country and the world and do not care at all.

Smart political art. For those who don't get it, think about Tiananmen Square in Beijing in 1989.

Every $1 invested in NIH returns $2.46—cutting National Institute of Health research funding won’t save money; it’ll cost lives.

I agree!

Yeah, this is pretty obvious but worth stressing. Also, the idea that techbro coders with no experience in government are best able to identify and root out “fraud” is laughable

“At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? If it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.” —A. Lincoln

On the "absolute monarchy" scale, we've just hit "L'État, c'est moi."
