An occurring theme in looking up "semite" is: a member of any of the peoples who speak or spoke a Semitic language, including in particular the Jews and Arabs.

Whichever way it is, it is beautiful. Me, I think it is becoming a new thing, a hybrid, a glorious mix of the dragon's fierce pride and the lily's softness.

Political theatre is what propelled 47 into the WH. Unfortunately, a great number of voters rely on political theatre when deciding who to vote for. In other words, it is needed right now to counter the magaBS.

Plutocracy. We are living in a plutocracy. The very wealthy control the nation, from POTUS to the items we find on store shelves. Media and advertising have long been controlled by the wealthy. A veneer of capitalism fools us into believing we have choices.

How old? I'm what many here would call older, but I do not need that equation deconstructed. And, as our current mess indicates, authoritarianism does not restrict itself to communism. Far from it. A social democracy would be wonderful, if the left-of-centers could stop infighting & vote.

The catch phrase was "communism" and it lasted until the Berlin Wall came down. Then the far right started on "socialism" as communism was clearly far less a threat than they claimed after the USSR fell apart. Now they are making a big scary case against leaning more than 2 degrees left of center.

The wealthy will have to pay more taxes, as will businesses, which they should be doing now. And fear of state ownership? We have monopolies and wealthy ppl/businesses /controlling/ the state right now. Plutocracy. The rich say what they want, the politicians obey. I'd rather see more socialism.

There are flavors of socialism. Just like flavors of democracy. In the US things like Social Sec., Medicare, SNAP, etc., are mild socialist policies to help the old, young and poor. We can do better, introduce more socialist programs and make life better without changing who owns what.

Kicked off the bill.
comment in response to post
And that is the problem, right there. Until the red states suffer they won't believe the bill is bad. Even then they will try to excuse the suffering - it is somehow the Dems fault, they'll say. If Biden hadn't done... whatever. 2026. Vote blue.

Too bad they don't get snow - those roofs would be awesome sledding hills!

Love it! Great video, beautiful squirrel - the colors, the ears, tail (omg, so long) And it carefully, methodically, ate every bit of its meal

Desires can be a bitch - feed the body, but neglect the soul, or feed the soul and neglect the body? In the end, does it matter? Or, perhaps, the heart will speak out and end the cycle?

He burped and farted chili for days, but I found no evidence of him getting sick - of course, he could have shat mightily outside somewhere. At the time much of the area around mom's house was still open fields and woods.

Of course.

Never trust the white man, never trust his leader. From the beginning, one broken promise after another. Over and over and over again.

The DNC better up its game. It keeps backing people like Cuomo, we won't need to back the DNC or listen to them. Mamdani is proof.

his belly was distended, he had the goofiest cat-grin on his face. Until I lifted him from the pot & into the sink & washed the chili off him I don't recall his original name. We called him Chili-breath after that side note - my sister and her buddies ate the chili before I told them what happened

Long ago I had an orange tabby. He liked people food. A lot. I made a large (8 qt) pot of chili one fall day, went outside to pick some apples for a pie. Wasn't gone long, the tree was 20 ft from the back door. Came in and found him standing in the pot. He'd eaten close to 1/4 of it, maybe more /1

Mitchell doesn't care anymore - he's 2 hairs from death, so he knows he won't make it to the next election cycle.

DNC. Democrats voted for Mamdani. The DNC threw its weight behind crunchy.
comment in response to post
All people left of center need to support more people like Mamdani. If the DNC won't support them vote them in anyhow. Just like Mamdani. We've seen it happen. We know it can happen.

It is a bonus. If he is perkier, he is happier - and less prone to shouty anger, which often comes with dementia. I'm just doing what people used to do. Parents took care of kids, then kids took care of parents. There are a lot of people taking care of someone - dad, mom, spouse, etc.

Goldlace Seabrights - I used to have a few of these chickens. Lovely little things. And that is a seriously insane sign. Weird, even.
