Oh yes. It is the most questionable of life choices.

Almost every PhD I know is little more than a pile of questionable life choices duct-taped together under a baggy sweater - these are some of the most believable academics I’ve seen.

What a relief, at first I thought this post was about writing.

When I asked this same question to a colleague a few years back, they said it was better to go with “A Thousand Plateaus” - if I remember correctly his argument was that ATP was much more useful and applicable, while Anti-Oedipus was a specific critique of a specific discourse.

From someone whose current goal is “get as many rejections as possible”, thank you for sharing this. The transparency is super helpful (and encouraging) and it would be amazing if more people did this. I’ll post mine once I hit my rejection target!

p.s. did you know that 5 out of 6 Nebula novella finalists are also eligible for the Auroras?! Canadians are killing it this year!

Just picked this up on the recommendation of roughly 93% of the people I follow.... This has been on the list for a while, and I cannot wait to dig in!

I am an English speaker living in a non-English country, and having a lot of trouble finding/creating a writing group of people at my level (published academic, unpublished but submitting fiction, which is where I’m focused now). Advice on building or finding a productive writing group?

So yeah, umm, forgive me for being a fucking weirdo for the next few weeks as I figure out how to exist again in a small sliver of space that seems to be slightly outside of (or at least not totally subsumed by) the logic of capitalism?

When I realized that I could just remove the 'Discover' feed on Bluesky, that there wasn't an advertisement in sight, that my feed wasn't endless or repeating, and that I could feel and see communities... The contrast between this and a constant barrage of shit rammed into my eyeholes was jolting.

The commodification of community and the enshittification of those platforms came in a slow but relentless march, and was ultimately total. In retrospect it saddens me how much I just accepted that / didn't notice / thought it wasn't as bad it seemed. Frightens me a bit, too.
