I think it’s important to draw attention to small acts of courage and dissent (like this NYT ad and the message from the VT ski resort social media manager) that remind people of the range of possibilities for standing up, speaking out, and fighting back.

A new @reuters.com poll finds Americans have a dim view of many of the Trump administration's blizzard of executive actions, including the Jan. 6 pardons and his effort to limit birthright citizenship. But they *really* don't like the Gulf of America thing. www.reuters.com/world/us/ame...

Thank goodness: after an outpouring of public dissent, Lackland reversed its terrible decision and will thankfully be teaching recruits about the Tuskegee airmen and the Women Airforce Service Pilots again. A reminder that we must always push back: www.expressnews.com/news/article...

Montana back road report for January 13th, 2025 (with some Miles Davis)

A real photo and perfect metaphor heading into 2025.

“We wanted to help ProPublica’s readers recognize the humanity of the people we had met and talked to, so we gave them notecards and asked them to describe their experiences with sweeps.”

This is a great piece, by Michelle. Lots of folks don't quite understand how much the prosperity gospel distorts the Christian faith by seeking wealth and power -- along with creating a constellation of Christian celebrities who were like Trump before Trump even came on the scene.

Big scoop from @kirstengrind.bsky.social, @ericlipton.nytimes.com and @sheeraf.bsky.social: There are at least 3 federal reviews into Elon Musk for failing to report the details of his foreign relations as required by his security clearance www.nytimes.com/2024/12/17/t...

How it feels arguing on social media:

It's rare you get such a clear illustration of whose lives have value in America and whose don't

Yeah okay but to be fair the journalists only have the drinking problem because they have to report on the politicians
