In the past, there was a concept, "Noblesse Oblige". Those who have much are obligated to help those who have little. Since the ascendency of neo-liberalism, we've replaced that with "Greed is Good". It's time to return to our roots. TAX THE RICH! They own the society that made them wealthy.

He’s threatening media companies who are critical of him. He’s talking about sending Americans to foreign prisons. He’s signing executive orders to investigate former staff members who spoke out against him. He’s defying the Supreme Court. Don’t you see what’s happening here?

Maybe it's me but a president having the power to call trade emergencies and fuck up the global economy on a whim seems like it shouldn't be a thing, and we should probably campaign on that not being a thing any longer.

Trump said again he’s open to sending U.S. citizens to a Salvadoran prison. There is no constitutional basis for this—such an act would be a direct violation of the Constitution.

Trump is talking about shuttering publications and networks he disagrees with. He's talking about deporting and imprisoning Americans who dissent. This is unprecedented and undemocratic. Wake up America.

Not even 100 years ago. Middle of last century. I have a buddy in his early 80s who grew up in Iowa and he said that as a kid, "sometimes kids just died" from now preventable illnesses. His childhood was marked with the deaths of classmates.

There is no strict Constitutional prohibition against setting the governor's house on fire nor is there one against attacking the governor with a hammer. So it's hard to see what the case against Cody Balmer is really about. by Jonathan Turley

Oh look. Another bribery and extortion scheme.

New: El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele said a Maryland man deported to his country would not be returned to the US, even as the Supreme Court has called for the Trump administration to facilitate his release

What's it like for Black people to see Maya Angelou's books banned from the US Naval Academy library? Josh Barro and Ross Douthat drop by to explain.

Whether it's a right-winger trying to kill Democrat Josh Shapiro, a right-winger trying to kill Democrats Paul and Nancy Pelosi, or right-wingers trying to kidnap Democrat Gretchen Whitmer, it's time to renounce political violence from both sides.

Trump full-on accusing Zelensky of starting the war Russia launched against Ukraine in 2014, before Zelensky was even president, and escalated in 2022 with it unprovoked, full-blown invasion. Not a single criticism toward Putin, a day after the deadliest single attack of the war by Russia this year.

The most revolting Oval Office presser since Feb. 28 (the Zelensky one). Even just hitting a few of the lowlights of this will leave you sickened and dismayed. BUT it's also clarifying. Anyone who has been talking about "the road to authoritarianism" can stop that now. The road is behind us.

The Supreme Court issued a weaselly order in the hopes of sidestepping a constitutional crisis, hoping Trump would at least perform the pretense of complying with it, and he's publicly wiping his ass with it. The legislative and judicial branches are gone

Jesus Christ this is so dark

MORGAN STANLEY: “.. Investors should prepare to be fooled many more times. If a master plan exists, .. it's unlikely to work in the way the US administration envisions.”

A fundamental shift has taken hold among investors, traders and analysts. Serious questions now exist around the wisdom of owning American assets that until recently were the envy of a risk-obsessed world. Read the Markets Daily newsletter.

Stuff's reader poll today.

republicans are disappearing people under the guise of fighting antisemitism and can’t even pretend to give a fuck when a jewish governor’s house gets firebombed on passover

I was at a conference last week in California where we were missing a few speakers. One of them was denied entry to the US and another one was fired from the federal government right before the conference. Normal times.

NEW: I confirmed w/ CBP that the email @nicolemicheroni.bsky.social receive telling her to self-deport is real, not a scam. It's also is very weird and likely causing fear and chaos. I spoke w/ Micheroni—a US citizen and immigration attorney—about her experience. www.wired.com/story/homela...

NEW from PP: The Trump admin is blowing off Congress's Qs about ICE wrongly detaining Americans. More than a dozen lawmakers demanded answers. The admin has offered silence. “That’s not usual." said @normornstein.bsky.social. "Nothing about this is usual." www.propublica.org/article/trum...

Basically: I don’t think people understand that 36 hours from now it’s possible that America will have a formalized system for abducting enemies of the regime and stashing them in foreign gulags, indefinitely. www.thebulwark.com/p/bukele-abr...

Calm down, folks, it was just an attempted assassination of a Jewish Democratic governor and his family on the first night of Passover, it’s not like somebody spray painted a dick on a Cybertruck.

The Trump regime is claiming tyrannical powers. Not an exaggeration, not hyperbole, not a partisan statement. The reality we now face.

I am not the first guy to notice or say this but these slimeballs accidentally invented doing the Cultural Revolution again without knowing who Mao is

An innocent man was “mistakenly” taken and sent to a foreign prison. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 he must be brought home — yet he’s still there. Every day this administration shows just how vile and lawless it remains. Bring him home!

The president is saying that once the administration gets people outside our borders it can do anything to them—including torture and death—and they can’t be stopped or held accountable.

Booker: "This isn't just about Mr. Garcia. This is about every American understanding that this president is making an assault on the due process rights that are afforded to people in our country ... you cannot disappear people off American streets."

@gregcasar.bsky.social: "Elon Musk gets $8 million a day in federal government contracts and subsidies. $65 a day is how much your average senior gets on Social Security just to barely survive on after working their entire life."

Pathetic.

More in No, Other People: New poll: “America would be better off if more people worked in manufacturing.” • 80% of Americans agree • 20% disagree “I would be better off if I worked in a factory.” • 25% of Americans agree • 73% disagree • 2% currently work in a factory

A senior executive at the Social Security Administration was physically dragged from his office this week after clashing with armed goons from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), according to The Washington Post. www.thedailybeast.com/doge-goons-p...

I cannot confirm Prof. Franke's claim that this is happening tomorrow, but it wouldn't surprise me. Vichy on the Hudson, indeed.

The Trump administration has canceled a Biden-era agreement requiring the state of Alabama to clean up raw sewage in poor, Black, rural communities where filthy toilet water has been flowing directly into the yards of homes where children play.
