Gamers don’t know what they want. And then they scream at the top of their lungs when designers go “No, I’m not getting rid of all the flowers on the map just because some of them add a little visual noise.” They’re like dogs begging for boiling water on the stove. No idea what they’re asking for.

Like these people want hell to exist just as a motivating factor for them to work towards some kind of goal even if the goal is... 'create the motivating factor that retroactively made me work towards the goal'

It's not even the normal 'wanting to believe in hell' where you really hope bad people are getting tortured, because the definition of 'bad people' here is intentionally a wildly insane line in the sand focused on following rules that don't make any human sense

What if it's much dumber than that and they actually do think Democrats were responsible for terrorism (and therefore counter-terrorism is no longer necessary)?

The average radical hardcore Dem progressive lib is almost functionally the same as a typical left-anarchist DSA member (and vice versa)

At literal 19th century colonial extraction rates of like 10% of GDP it would easily take them 20 years!!

I think the more likely outcome is leaving Poland and Romania, yes.

NATO is in fact the guarantor of European security and the US leaving it doesn't change that.

Like, most of the entire point of old gender norms was to enforce conformism on out-groups (women and queer people) and secure the social position of conformist men. Now we have a system that holds basically *everyone* to be an out-group in gender and holds *everyone* to standards they can't meet!
comment in response to
post
I think a larger point is that something has fundamentally become really unstable in gender relations where the old system of "women have to Be Women but men can just be Normal" has given way to "women have to Be Women and also men have to actively Be Men".

Is the idea that Europe has egg on its face because Trump proved they don't need major conventional forces for their own defense? Genuinely asking, I'm not sure I follow the point here

Literally every major border crossing *has* to cross a river at some point, if they use aircraft and seize the airport then they have to go through basically the entire city to get to Parliament Hill, if they want to land near Parliament the closest realistic spot is the War Museum...

Like I do think "Donald Trump starts off strong but ends up stringing together almost the exact same sentence about tariffs over and over on live TV" is a pretty reasonable scenario

My money is on 'he refuses to shut the fuck up about whatever his fixation is at the moment and appears approximately as coherent as he looks in press conferences, but this time it matters because people are actually watching instead of just reading headlines'

honestly just forcing people to watch donald trump speak at length about anything at all would probably accomplish a fair deal even if he didn't stroke out or something! his batting average is not great right now!

Like there just doesn't really exist an actual means of hybrid-war action here, if you're going to say Erik Prince turning into American Prigozhin then in all seriousness Academi is, what, a few hundred PMCs who exclusively do VIP protection work and similar?

I mean, for that scenario to happen you still need a sizable American garrison in Canada walking into a major provincial capital overnight

Like fundamentally, if there ends up being some kind of military stalemate the US has to break with strategic bombing, it will be because a massive portion of the US military has straight up mutinied and joined the Canadian side

Canada is extremely highway-dependent but there is absolutely no reality in which the US has to lay siege to us, either we beat back a coup attempt or we get militarily occupied entirely, and in either case "deliberately starve the population" is an incredibly bad idea
