Mom, come pick me up, they're coming up with the silliest possible version of the Great Man Theory of History

check out the brain on this guy eh
*co-opted by eugenicists who decided it meant "how good you are at logic puzzles and remembering is actually a single score that measures all intelligence and therefore evolutionary fitness and therefore moral value"
And has not kept up with the field since
Noah Smith: "I live in Japan. Did I mention that I live in Japan?"
If all people can be measured for skill, and that skill indicates who will do the best job, then we can solve problems of how to organize society with math. If that's not the case, then maybe society is unsolvable, mathematically... 1/2
Who gets to be called “a genius?”
Nate: Wow so smart!
I don't see how anybody could 🤮
I’m sure his IQ is just fine but by all measures he’s an idiot.
Dunning-Kruger effect
P = G + E + GxE
I suspect the same is true in history, that occasionally there is the right person at the right time, but more likely is the right person at the wrong time,
Sometimes the G, E, and GxE effects are negative and I suspect something similar happens in history.
History = (Trends and Forces) + Leaders + (Trends and Forces)x leaders interaction, all of which can be negative.
Also, having an ability doesn’t mean you use it. You could be a premier sousaphone player but not know it. 🤷♂️
Maybe it’s only 25 percent but there are dumbasses abound in all fields!
His relevance to current conversations isn't even measurable, as in small.
