A police officer was killed Saturday after responding to a shooting at UPMC Memorial Hospital just outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where the suspected gunman also was killed, according to state police.

she is right

Also, this is a *perfect example* of the kind of bureaucratic layer that makes actually doing things in government sometimes hard! Do you a VA nurse spending her time providing health care or writing Elon an email about “What I Did Last Week”?

This was the moment, just over a month ago, when the ADL could've put an end to Republicans doing Nazi salutes. They didn't. They chose instead to provide cover by calling it "an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm." Now the sieg heil salute has been normalized. The ADL literally had ONE JOB.

As with so many of Trump’s actions, the president *can* do this but the question is whether it is right for him to do so. As far as I know this termination was completely without cause. Good people who have served their country for decades deserve respect. Trump respects no one.

I think what we should remember is that Trump is known to negotiate with the aggressors. When negotiating the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, Trump worked with the Taliban rather than the Afghan gov't. And now, he would rather negotiate with Russia excluding Ukraine. www.npr.org/2021/03/04/9...

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later). Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.

As it happens, Trump has gone so far off the cliff that Europe isn’t divided but closing ranks. I figured that it’ll become politically difficult for European politicians to try and suck up to him because electorates see what Trump is doing and are very angry. But it’s even better than expected:

Trump just ordered the DOJ to eliminate the police misconduct database. Imagine losing your child to police brutality &finding out the officer had a violent history that wasn't tracked. A Manhattan federal judge on Friday banned Elon Musk’s team from regaining access to the U.S. Treasury Department’s most sensitive payment and data systems until the conclusion of a lawsuit that claims the group’s access is unlawful.
