They can’t close the Department of Education. Only Congress can do that. But, they can dismantle it, create chaos and confusion, sow further distrust in the public education system, and create conditions across states that are fundamentally unequal. And, that is the point.

It’s probably worth remembering that most of what Trump does is vengeance and punishment. Getting kicked out of office the first time savaged his ego and he spent four years stewing. There’s no four dimensional chess, it’s just a pathetic old man with rage issues doing all the harm before he dies.

My husband ran a successful business and used our local rural post office daily. My elderly neighbor’s meds come through the rural post office. The post office is one of the only places left open in my rural community. Losing it could quite literally kill my town and my neighbors.
