The back of the barn & house. My trail breaking method is to tramp down a quarter mile, then backtrack, then go back over the trail & break a quarter mile more, etc.

Absolutely stunning winter day. Finally got outside on my snowshoes after 2 wks of bronchitis & broke a trail thru the woods—hard work after resting in the house so long.

🚨NEW: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning to fire Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff C.Q. Brown, a 4-Star General and 41-year veteran of the Air Force who flew over 130 hours in combat as a fighter pilot. REPOST if you stand with General C.Q. Brown against Hegseth!

Quilt rows are almost finished—then I’ll sew them together. Just 2 more rows to do.

One more very cold day in a string of cold days—fortunately the 3-day wind has stopped. Town plows cleared the streets & the wind blew the snow back in drifts. Single digits.

We are going to end the subminimum wage in Maryland. Repost this if you agree that every Marylander should have access to a livable wage.

Tom Homan asks "where is the line of impeedment?" I'm not sure what he's trying to say, but I'm certain that AOC telling people what their rights are does not meet the standard of criminal impeedyness necessary to open an investigation.

A good moment to remember the Russia thing was always real. Trump's goal is to help Russia and Putin, always has been. He's trying to throw our democratic allies under the bus and America as well. Again, the Russia thing was always real.

Ready for assembly. Each small 9-patch must be trimmed to exactly 6.5 inches. Small green squares have to match the adjacent large greens. 7th of 12 blocks.

Crazy wind. It’s not just howling, it’s shrieking. Glad to be inside.

It helps to lay out the different green pieces to a large block first, so I don’t get their position mixed up. A to A, B to B, etc.

Returning to the house…

Started up to the cabin to check on my son who is removing snow from the cabin roof. Couldn’t get there (wasn’t wearing snowshoes)! Deep snow.

Re people afraid of demonstrating for fear of martial law… As a teacher’s union pres I called a meeting w/ a male principal who was seriously harassing a female teacher. The teacher worried about having the meeting: “If I do this, what will he be like next year?” 1/2

The winter storm is upon us. I had time to clear the deck to avoid too much heavy snow—we’re expecting quite a lot.

This is fascism.

For Monday February 17:

If any of you know Neil Gorsuch (a longtime defender of Indian tribes' rights), please send him this piece about the devastating layoffs of about 1,000 employees in the Indian Health Service -- which means we're abrogating our obligations as mandated by treaties. ictnews.org/news/life-or...

Quilt rows beginning to take shape. This design was a little more complicated by the multiple shades of green, but it was fun to figure out.

Incompetence in Washington puts every American at risk, no matter how you voted. No one should be happy that the DOGE team - the same folks who randomly published classified U.S. security information online today - wants access to your bank account & Social Security numbers.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier: "We must not freeze in fear, or as the English saying goes, let's not be deers caught in the headlights. It is clear that the new American administration holds a world view that is very different from our own. One that shows no regard for established rules."

I miss my valentine today. My husband in Colorado abt 7 mos. before his death in 2024. In the background is Mt. Sopris which we had summited 15 years earlier.

Our plow guy got stuck in the driveway this morning—had to have a tractor come & pull him out. Drifts are so deep he missed the turn at the bottom and sank into the ditch.

REPOST if you support our federal workforce and know how dedicated they are to their jobs. Show them you appreciate them!

The high wind today blew one of my wreaths off the side of the house.

February 2014: sled dog race in Colebrook.

Snowed all day long, w/ periods of high wind. Very gloomy. Our plow guy won’t be by until the snow has completely stopped, but that’s okay, we’re not going anywhere today. Temps in single digits tonight.

Folks: I am NOT affiliated with the group that is using my name to support an economic boycott. Please spread this post, if you would.

Wild wind out there this morning.

Raven looking cute. She has appointed herself my official alarm clock & jumps onto my bed every morning @ 4:30 AM, then escorts me into the kitchen to supervise me filling her bowl with food.

A good follow. @democratvalues.bsky.social

Another blast from the past: my daughter flanked by her older and younger brothers on a visit to the Eastern shore of Maryland.

Beautiful sky this morning. Always cheers me up.

Early May in northern NH. Trees don’t have leaves yet but the Spring Beauty is up, taking advantage of the sunlight.
