Actually, I am becoming as anti-cellphone as I am anti-car. I should not need a $500 phone in my pocket AT ALL TIMES to answer my door, turn on my lights, pay my bar tab, place my order in a restaurant. That's YOUR BUSINESS. You provide the damn infrastructure to handle it.

Minneapolis friends: Do you know about the Southside Greenway? It's a community effort working to create a north-south bike & ped corridor that connects S Mpls to Downtown. Here's part of last weekend's group ride, showing the very different levels of safety along the route currently. 1/2

No one experiencing the tragedy of a miscarriage should be arrested, much less abandoned in jail for 5 months with a $100k bond. But that’s exactly what happened to Mallori Patrice Strait in Texas. Women, particularly women of color, in this country are no longer allowed dignity even in extreme loss

My god few things make me despair for the future like how casually my kids mention that they had a lockdown drill in school this week. “But it was a soft lockdown, so we just had to be quiet.” What a shitty world we’ve built for our kids.

Funny how this is a bipartisan demographic

This proposed route is mouth watering. 20 mph, ADA compliant, such an access superstar.

The crypto corruption taking place in DC makes subprime look like a Boy Scout picnic.

Y'all. Biden did not hide or lie about his cancer. We have his radiology scans from his medical exams while he was President *last year*. He was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of it that can progress that far in weeks. Y'all are not his doctor.

And remember, most people under 35 probably don't have direct visceral experience with the horrors of the subprime scandal. Keep learning! Many businesses will default to crime anywhere they can see a profit upside.

What caused America's awful school-drop-off-by-car epidemic? Was it the wholesale transformation from neighborhood schools to far-flung privates, magnets and charters? Was it both parents working? Or maybe parents are applying their shame of bus riding to their children. Idk, do you?

I would think the people who are going to learn to hate climate change most will be Republicans who voted for Trump in Confederate states. By sheer luck, most of those former U.S. states are also at worst risk of climate disaster -- and they voted to delete everything we've built *to protect them.*

Happy 150th birthday to the Metric System! It’s a good day for Canadians to throw away their yardsticks and stop using the USA system of measurements and become truly part of the metric world. As for the UK which I am visiting, what a measurement mess.

"Some National Weather Service offices, including Jackson, no longer have overnight staff from midnight to 7AM. All three Kentucky offices - Jackson, Paducah and Louisville - are short-staffed. There is no meteorologist in charge at any of the three offices..." www.kentucky.com/news/state/k...

I missed this story on the demise of sports betting at the Mn legislature this session. Yay!

My politics in a headline:

Classmate Bob Mould drops out of Macalester College. I graduated. He makes head banging music and is invited to speak at graduation. I told them they paid their former president way too much and was kicked off their mailing list 🤔

Kids, I'm amazed at how much better you look in your mullets and moustaches than we did.

People need to be hearing about this shit every single day. Zoom in on literally anything here.

I know what I see but have all centrist and conservative Democrats abandoned public school desegregation goals? Like, the moment their kid got into their own preferred culturally/ethnically/religiously segregated charter school?

Interested in the current, actual air quality near the #RethinkingI94 corridor? You know, in dozens of schools and 1000s of homes? Tough luck, there's only one AQ monitor near it. That's a good starting question when @mndot.mn.gov holds its virtual highway AQ meeting on 5/28 at noon.

june 14th no kings march beginning at the commons and ending with a rally in loring park www.mobilize.us/mobilize/eve...

Someone yells from the kitchen and everything is now as it should be. "God, Kristi Noem's lips are enormous!"

Are we being punked? What is this headline even?

Kristi Noem is supposedly working with Rob Worsoff, a writer and producer known for Duck Dynasty, to create a reality TV show where immigrants compete for fast tracked US citizenship. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...

General Mills peddles frankenfoods to kids. Cargill deforests forests. United Health hoovers households' tax contributions. And oh yeah, 3M forever chemicals are everywhere. Minnesota businesses looking none too classy lately.

Zero-containment fires still burning near Duluth. I guess the wishful thinking about climate havens is over.

I read the city's page about the Storycorp booth set up in Powderhorn for the 5th anniversary of George Floyd's murder and I just about exploded with rage. We don't need to tell our trauma stories for a national audience, we need truth and reconciliation and real mental health resources!

Say it out loud: cars and trucks do not belong in cities. They are dangerous, overbuilt, terribly noisy (by design or just due to tire friction) and quite obviously the biggest source of air and climate pollution. They should only operate here if they are slow, safe, and silent. #SlowSafeSilent

Again, this is a planning and prioritization problem. We prioritize dangerous cars, trucks and drivers. Yes Minneapolis and Saint Paul have some cool safety programs underway. Yes there are a few curb separated bike lanes. But where is our leadership? Why is the safety of children an afterthought?

I want all of you to give your mothers the gift of healthy, affordable, accessible transportation. I promise they'll be delighted. Because moms love to bike, they love to walk, and they really love for their children to be healthy and happy.

Cannot be overemphasized. These are design, budget and prioritization decisions (cars or people? clean air or disease? vast and eternal property tax levies or new economic development?). We're behind you when you're ready, @mayorcarter.bsky.social @mattprivratsky.bsky.social

I think about this all the time. Because sometimes it simply boils down to aesthetics. People who love cities don't want stroads, or car sewers, or poison traffic trenches--all things that suburban dwellers have accepted as their cost for "rural" living. And now they're forcing it on us.

Thought you'd enjoy seeing how expensive and messy it is to rebuild the highways our parents and grandparents used to kill parts of our cities. #RethinkingI94 www.oregonlive.com/politics/202...

Old first term Trump toon. Fascism is in full effect.

People of Minneapolis & Saint Paul: let's get serious about this fire warning. Please LMK if you receive advance guidance from your local unit of government about Sunday's hazard. For instance, does your neighbor know not to hold that bonfire? Who is in charge? forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.ph...
