I look forward to them spelling colour with a u

This isn't just true for Americans - it is vital that we all hold the line and defend democracy. "I’m far from certain that staying engaged will make a difference. What I do know is that if we all tune out, there’s no hope at all" @sulliview.bsky.social

Every ten minutes here is like: - Trump doubles student debt - Musk now has keys to your house and is in your bathroom doing plumbing drugs - Three planes just crashed - Trump signs EO making women illegal - Face-melted Nazi from Indiana Jones now in charge of CIA - Meteor not arriving fast enough

I look forward to JD Vance's statement denouncing this European attack on free speech.

Is Musk demanding the data held by the Social Security Administration in order to make it more efficient? Unlikely. Here's a better explanation: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

This is fascism.

You think it can’t get any worse. But it will. Every day. Until enough GOP members decide to pushback (no sign so far); Supreme Court backs the constitution (not hopeful); markets crash; or American voters rise up.

It gives me no pleasure to say she was right.

Thanks Jonn for writing/articulating exactly what I am thinking and feeling

The USA have sleepwalked into autocracy. The whole world will feel the pain of this but none more so than themselves. There should be five alarm fires ringing all over the world but the media are more concerned with sanewashing it all. If you think it won't affect you, I pray you're right.

It was always obvious that the right-wing moral panic around universities had nothing to do with "free speech". It was about delegitimising critical & dissenting intellectual activity, with a view to suppressing it altogether. Far too many liberals were taken in by this transparent, reactionary scam

The Celestial Stranger – Thomas Traherne Traherne is sometimes described as the last metaphysical poet. However, it seems to me he might equally be described as the first romantic poet. The themes he tackles – love of nature and loss of childhood innocence – and his visionary, rhapsodic style have…

Sometimes self-government just means elections. And sometimes it means recognizing the deeper dignity and meaning of what it means to be a people. That means speaking up, standing out, and protesting. We can only be free together. snyder.substack.com/p/the-logic-...

The champions of Free Speech are now forcing scientists to retract submitted publications until they can be checked for the appearance of “forbidden terms.”

Well those anthems were butchered

It's crazy that this & previous governments (rightly) constantly hymn 'Britain's world-class universities' and (rightly) consistently identify them as central to national strategy, and yet pursue policies which are eroding, if not destroying, an asset that other countries would give anything to have

Bloody hell

And that's a wrap 🌯 Grateful to have had especially good weather and clear skies filled with astrophysical phenomena for the last South Africa trip of my PhD ✨ Should reduce into some high quality follow-up data for @nextgentransits.bsky.social 🔭 📷 @mattburleigh.bsky.social for the first picture

Well done Leeds

Did England play cricket today? Checks cricinfo. Oh.

Atlas telescope and its Comet, Sutherland, South Africa

👏

Free speech activist defend’s Elon Musk’s straight-arm salute. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcXn...

Oh dear. Bullshitting us all because they are terrified and haven’t a clue how to respond

Comet Atlas putting on a fine display tonight at the South African astronomical observatory in Sutherland. A bit further from the Sun now.

Perfect

Also me and galaxies

Tonight we have Comet Atlas and the South African Large Telescope SALT

Practice run for when he installs himself as permanently and deems votes 'commemorative'.

Very fortunate to be working here at the observatory in South Africa this evening and Comet C/2024 G3 Atlas finally appeared in the evening sky behind our telescope.

>400 MPs, majority of 170….. but Mail readers cannot accept the democratic vote. You lost, get over it.

Congratulations TNT sports at missing the new lads first ball. Wake up that intern!

He’s not Harry Brook

Unpopular opinion, but cricket’s world test championship is a farce

I read that Panama has doubled the cost of using the canal for us navy due to Trump being a fricking moron

If this is supposed to be me then I’m not too worried about AI taking over the world. Fucking it up maybe.

A round of applause for the final paragraph www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
