One of my favorite parts of proofreading SFF is when you see a sentence out of the corner of your eye, think, oh I'm sure that's an error, then you get to it, and, no, the author actually intended that ridiculous thing and it works.

I swear if I ever see someone with a HAL icon get into a fight with someone with a Melon Helmet Cat icon on here it's going to be the most complex internet version of "mommy and daddy are fighting again" breakdown you've ever witnessed.

I am stealing a term from Gus Bodenheim on @wfmu.bsky.social and will henceforth be encouraging the description of ai slop as “blandfill”

TOMORROW! 1 pm EDT/10 am PDT I will be appearing on a virtual panel on short stories hosted by the Braille Institute, with wonderful writers @tananarivedue.bsky.social and Jendayi Brooks-Flemister! Register to attend here: bit.ly/44ppXks

I had two plane flights this past weekend and had to choose between doing admin tasks during the flight or reading the newly released sf novel THE FOLDED SKY by Elizabeth Bear. GUESS WHICH I CHOSE!? Yes, it’s great. Am 67% done. Aces. www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Fo...

"A Muslim socialist won the Democratic nomination to be mayor of New York City by going on a radio show with antifascist conservatives" I say as I step out of the time machine in 2003 and am immediately institutionalized

I don’t know much about NYC politics but is it normal to give your speeches from the place where the food stalls are set up at the comics convention?

Heard a maybe racist song yelling about The Barbarians but his accent made it sound like The Bavarians and now I’m imaging some racist idiot writing screeds about people in tyrolean hats.

Performer on BART starts up. Old white lady to her husband, sounding knowledgeable: “he’s not an acrobat, he’s a rapper.”

@kristodynamics.bsky.social oh my god “Cremaster and Commander” is amazing.

I know you've seen this, but I really want to make "a turtle you saw" shorthand for this sort of thing.

It's finally official: I just received the first unbound proof for the trade paperback edition of my Kickstarter book, KAMIKAZE L'AMOUR. Backer copies of the bound books will be going out ASAP.

Not often you see graffiti in the Bay Area that evokes German Expressionism

Hell yeah to the old people making out in their car on the summer solstice. You rule.

I despise the current trend of shoehorning "AI" into everything, of course, but it is, in this very specific historical moment, a reasonable shorthand for "at least now I know this software project has been updated in the last six months"
