Van Hollen: And it's also important that people understand this case is not just about one man. It's about protecting the constitutional rights of everybody who resides in the United States of America.

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

one thing that Democratic politicians should take note of is that the overlap between “great political optics” and “actual morally good stuff” is really big right now

This is all terrifying

Follow this one closely. If Mr. Mahdawi is not granted due process, none of us can count on it.

NO ONE should be sent to El Salvador, you baby-brained losers. My God.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

important context about the concentration camps in el salvador:

There we go. Support this man.

Hernandez: Why is there always money to bomb children in Gaza, but not enough to make sure every kid has a safe place to sleep in this country. We don't have a budget crisis. We have a crisis of our values

It boggles my mind that now as a mom of 2 kids ages 4 and 2 I get more done in a day than my 20something self could ever imagine and yet she would far and away be considered more organized and more reliable at work, more committed to her health, and more interesting because she wasn’t a caregiver

Some personal news: the Department of Homeland Security has given me, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, seven days to leave the U.S. Does anyone know if you can get Italian citizenship through great-grandparents?

Raskin: If they can just sweep someone off the street, put them on an airplane, and send them to a torturer’s prison in an authoritarian state like El Salvador without due process… then they could do it to anybody.

So some people are plainclothes ICE agents interrogating small children, other people are random sociopaths impersonating ICE agents but everyone is supposed to know the difference, surely this won’t get even worse

The Smart People said "Abolish ICE" was too radical. Then ICE kidnapped students, sent innocent people to a mega prison, broke into a car to take a mom from her daughter, and tried questioning elementary kids while lying that they had parents permission. Ask yourself: which part is more "radical"?

Plainclothes agents. Trying to question elementary-aged kids. And lying that they had parents permission to do so.

Gonna take this opportunity to say that I can personally deliver no script for as little as 7 million, and I know some other writers who can do it for as little as five million.

I was a social security recipient from the age of 12 through 18. That’s not some weird thing or corruption. It’s called survivors’ benefits. You don’t have to know this. You’re blessed if you don’t. But if you’re going to speak publicly abt the program you need to know this.

My son invented something called "good day chips" where you have just one or two potato chips on the side of breakfast, eaten w your family, to set the intention of having a nice day and things going well. It really works! Also whoops did he invent the Eucharist

the basic problem facing american democracy is that one party has decided it wants a king and will hand over as much authority as is necessary to make that happen

Alternative headline: Acting Head of IRS Resigns Rather Than Break the Law

Donald Trump knows that he owns these cowardly law firms. Here are a few recommendations: Paul Weiss can litigate to bring children back in the mines. Milbank can challenge clean air rules. Willkie Farr can lead on spoiling the water. Skadden is perfect to break the unions. Shameful all.

The courts *should* put an immediate and unequivocal halt to all use of the CECOT prison in El Salvador, with or without due process. They may not do that. But the *people* of the US still can. Don't lose of sight of this atrocity amidst the other outrages. Make this a key focus of resistance.

It's also like not only are you not going to get bananas or coffee or whatever, but a ton of businesses with products you like will simply go under because their profit margins were too slim. This will mean a massive wipeout of competition and centralization of the market.

Hard to overstate how lawless and also just fundamentally *untrustworthy* this country is, any promise we ever made anyone about anything turns out to have been fake www.nytimes.com/2025/04/08/u...

COVID didn't "turn out fine." Over 1 million people died in just the US. People are still dying. 100s of thousands of people are still dealing with the effects of Long COVID. And the entire country lost its shit and is still unwell. Tariffs will not "turn out fine." Effects will be experienced.

I googled "houses that look surprised" and I'm glad I did.

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

It cannot be overstated how insane and dangerous this argument is. They're saying that the government can illegally abduct and imprison people—and even admit that it screwed up!—and then remove the ability of any court to intervene by shipping the victim to a foreign gulag.

Boy's Mom Dubs Him Handsomest

Bates: He inherited an economy that was the best-performing in the world. But in just two months, he’s crashing that economy with the biggest tax increase on middle-class families in 50 years—raising the prices he promised he would lower, and breaking his number one promise to them.

People wonder about my serene smile in the face of imminent economic collapse and the reason is quite simple

I saw a version of this on here before but it's worth yelling: these institutions that Musk is illegally dismantling– the weather service, health system, climate & energy research, international aid, maybe the US mail(?)– they don't belong to him, they belong to us. We invested in them. They're ours
