If you're having a difficult day, have a read through of this article on the urgent question of whether the Bayeux Tapestry has 93 or 94 penises. And people say history is boring. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

I love this man.

Can confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic. Our work will continue but at a smaller scale

So, this guy obviously doesn't have MS13 on his knuckles. What an absurd claim! But as a tattoo historian, I can say: even if he did, it's all absolutely no evidence that he's affiliated with the gang anyway. Tattooing a Nike logo on you doesn't mean you make shoes.

Donald Trump is a tantrum-throwing toddler. WTF.

Thirty-eight of 43 experts cut last month from the boards that review the science and research that happens in laboratories at the National Institutes of Health are female, Black or Hispanic, according to an analysis by the chairs of a dozen of the boards.

An amazing piece of Roman military history! The only complete surviving Roman scutum (shield) used by legionaries. Wood, leather, bronze edge binding. AD 200s. From the garrison at Dura-Europos on Rome’s eastern frontier which fell to the Sasanians in AD 256. 📷 me #RomanFortThursday #Archaeology

When you see innocent people being sent to a hell hole concentration camp in El Salvador, you are horrified. But the thing that most people in the USA still don't want to reckon with, is that *more than half* of the white people in the USA see the same exact images, *and like it*. They love it.

There are a lot of bad things happening all at once, and it’s overwhelming to think about how to meet moments like this. Jean says to focus on 1 or 2 things that you care about, understand fairly well, and are either local or involve a topic where you’re likely to have influence and find community

Absolutely right. Nobody should be supporting JK Rowling, who is now taking an active role in the UK government and spearheading the systemic torment of the very kids who once would have loved her books. Shameful.

I'm not usually an openly religious person, but God bless @vanhollen.senate.gov. Thank you for doing something. Thank you for standing up for the oppressed.

Really happy and really grateful about this extract from my book, THE FRANKLIN STOVE, in the new issue of the Harvard Magazine—this is from the book’s intro, explaining why, in a changing climate, we must “make haste slowly” www.harvardmagazine.com/2025/05/fran...

I’m about to board my flight to El Salvador, where I hope to meet with senior government officials to discuss the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. I also hope to see Kilmar and check on his condition — and remind him that we won’t stop fighting until he’s home.

Abrego Garcia's wife: "I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive. Kilmar, if you can hear me, stay strong. God hasn't forgotten about you. Our children are asking when you will come home ... they miss their dad so much."

Everyone already disliked Americans but, ya know, 25% of our population just had to go and ensure we're all punch on sight.

Grabbed at his appointment to become a citizen. Is this who we are? 😕🇺🇸

The Trump admin has just detained Mohsen Mahdawi, who: –has green card –was Columbia Buddhist club president –saw his best friend shot & killed by Israeli soldier –said "we are against antisemitism because antisemitism is a form of injustice, and injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"

Harvard FTW: "The university will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights. Neither Harvard nor any other private university can allow itself to be taken over by the federal government."

Author lens is a tool that can be used by both nonfiction & fiction authors! Find out what it is and how you can use it effectively by looking at Douglas K. Miller's 'Washita Love Child' in my "Reading Like a Writer" article! #amwriting #amreading #biography www.melaniermeadors.com/blog/2025/4/...

Yes. It’s not an “autism epidemic”, it’s that we’re better at recognizing it. So many people, especially women, were missed when diagnostic criteria focused on most severe or disruptive symptoms in boys. As adults, they’re finally getting diagnoses. And fewer youngsters are missed now, too. #autism

There is a new book in the shop! This is the first one I've listed with hand-marbled paper made by me! It also has superfine Mohawk paper inside which is awesome for both writing and sketching. www.etsy.com/listing/1887...

Breaking news: The U.S. Department of Energy today announced it is unilaterally cutting in half the overhead rate on its academic grants, something that a federal judge recently told the National Institutes of Health it could not do.

She has broken ZERO LAWS and she is now imprisoned because she wrote an op-ed.

Y'all are going to be begging for DEI to come back. Because this is peak whiteness right now, and it's looking pretty damn inept.

I was scared to first put up a queer pride flag (red state resident) but the biggest surprise was how much more often people stopped by my house asking for help: stuck motorists, unhoused neighbors, etc. Some told me outright that the flag made them guess that I cared about them and that's correct

I cannot overstate the psychological benefits of sitting with your friends for a few hours and slaying monsters together.

in case you're wondering, "what's the harm in claiming an extinct species has been brought back from the dead" when it most certainly has not, our interior secretary is already using it to justify taking animals off the endangered species list

There are only around 140 coal plants still operating, with hundreds of retirements in recent years. Keeping them running costs more than actually building new solar and wind power — in 99 percent of cases. Oh and also coal killed half a million people in the US between 1999 and 2020.
