Great story! My grandad and nan’s brother were motorbike dispatch riders that night. (And others). They later founded the Cov motorbike club and when they then died in very late life had AMAZING bikers’ funerals!

No. But I’m an adult who freaks out if my shoes aren’t tied tight enough!

And that my use of possessive apostrophes has always been a bit sketchy! (I once wrote an undergrad essay about the 1984 Miner’s Strike!)

Good plan. That way the staff get a chunk.

In related tales - I am petty enough to find something that costs the exact balance of £5.01. What costs £5.01? The more ludicrous the better.

Others can speak in a more informed and academic way, but my guess at theorisation would be - as always - that this can be explained by how patriarchy works.

No. I’ve lived and worked around the UK for 25+ years (Oxford, Manchester, Cardiff, Coventry, Leicester,Canterbury - so including in Kent around the millennium…) and, just, no.

When it was founded, Warwick hired the top Prof of (then-called) industrial relations. He liked a drink (a bit too much) and did his leadership, writing, teaching and socialising in the V&C. In later years, if you needed something signed, you had to get over to the pub to put it in front of him.

This pub has iconic status in the development of my field. Truly.

Something by Miguel Martinez Lucio? There’s an updated version of their IHRM book which has a good introduction. Or pretty much anything by Ginny Doellegast?

Haha! Agreed. I think the effect is cumulative fatigue after a 14 week term!
