Admittedly he's still pretty drugged-up on two kinds of pain meds, and he's currently in his mandatory two-week quarantine, so we don't really have a good sense of what his personality's going to be. But from what I can see so far, I'm pretty sure this is a cat that thinks it's a dog.

He also has diarrhea (probably from his very recent neutering and dental extraction, or from the stress of moving from place to place), but nobody's perfect.

If you hold your hand above his head he will rear up on his hind legs for pets. If you feed him he'll knock his bowl into the wall in his enthusiasm, making him RIDICULOUSLY easy to medicate. If you tell him he's a good, handsome boy, he'll close his eyes and give a near-inaudible rumble of a purr.

I'm sure they had to bill the ML accordingly but I did not care at all about the CP. Very little about the CP moved me. You know what did? The scene where the FL walks towards her mom in the snow. I literally had to pause the show and BAWL.
THAT'S how you write a female-centric show. Goddamn.

All the big, emotional moments are between women. All the thematic moments happen between women. All the big narrative payoffs feature women. The ML isn't even THERE for the climax. It's like the old-school palace dramas where the women are the characters who matter and the emperor is just Some Guy.

As a result you get female characters who feel like they have ownership of that fictional world, instead of feeling like they’re just guest stars for the male characters who get to live in it (looking at you, SPN!). Nor are the “strong” women just feisty, with some combat ability.
