Europe can’t rely on the strength of the transatlantic relationship to help contain Russia’s threat – it must lead from the front and be the true force of support that Ukraine needs. Not just for Ukraine’s sake, but for a free and sovereign Europe.

WAKE UP!!! ⏰ We have already been further: The European Defence Community was on its way in 1952 - just two ratifications are missing, bring them in and the EDC would be in force! We propose to take the EDC as a starting point for a new way of thinking about security in Europe.

Dies ist die letzte Chance für Europa zu handeln. Sonst wird unsere Sicherheit zur Verhandlungsmasse zwischen Trump und Putin. Beobachten und kommentieren reichen deshalb nicht.

Preparing Intro to EU law again. This year only 1 new case, but a significant one: Case C-123/22 on Hungary's deficient asylum policy where the Court went beyond what the Commission applied for and imposed a € 1 000 000 daily penalty payment. In addition, 6 260(2) TFEU cases are currently pending.

REALaw has entered the chat 💬 We look forward to (re)building our administrative law community here on Bluesky too. REALaw is an international peer reviewed journal that addresses all things about European and comparative administrative law ⚖️ www.uitgeverijparis.nl/en/tijdschri...

This sounds great but the devil is not only in the detail of arranging PPPs & off-budget vehicles to ‘make the EU great again’. EU structures, rules & procedures exist to ensure democratic oversight and judicial backstop. We shouldn’t lose sight of these in the flight forward suggested in this oped

Belgian Green Party asks Belgian authorities to block Twitter in Belgium. Not sure whether this at all possible under the DSA however, since Twitter is a VLOP for which the Commission is responsible and Twitter is located in Ireland for the purposes of the DSA. www.lesoir.be/647161/artic...

"Zelenskyy: 25 years ago, 130B+ cubic meters of gas flowed through Ukraine. Today, Russian transit is at zero. Moscow’s energy blackmail cost it Europe. Now, we support Moldova’s transformation and push for more U.S. gas to end dependence on Russia."

We’ve been enjoying blue skies in Brussels every day for a year now 😜 Today, we’re celebrating our one anniversary on @bsky.app. Thank you for being part of our journey—here’s to many more! 🥳 💙

Truly nerdy. A new US paper repeats its view that WTO litigation can’t say whether an “essential security measure” is legal. It calls for a definitive interpretation to that effect. It suggests a “rebalancing” solution via nullification and impairment. I did warn you. docs.wto.org/dol2fe/Pages...

Question to the #CJEU: "Does the European Union have exclusive competence to conclude the Agreement on Air Transport between the Sultanate of Oman, of the one part, and the European Union and its Member States, of the other part?" Are we moving beyond #mixity in transport policy? #RELEX

US sanctions on Russian banks, including Gazprombank, have led to a sharp drop in the ruble, now over 110 per dollar, the weakest level since March 2022. The new penalties target key channels of foreign-currency inflows, risking further economic strain as Russia faces growing FX shortages.

Last week we held the launch event of the newly established Belgian Association for European Union Law. I am honoured to be member of its Board and looking forward to organizing events for both academics and practitioners working on EU law. Stay tuned.

In the latest issue of the CMLRev. I published a piece on Article 122(1) TFEU, assessing how the provision has been qualified in legal literature and testing the claim that the adoption of NGEU constituted a 'constitutional moment' for the EU.

Gar nicht gut. But understandable. The German post-war model is gone, and it is unclear what will replace it.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called for lifting restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range Western weapons and urged an end to discussions about so-called "red lines." She emphasized that the most important red line was crossed when Russia invaded Ukraine.

🚨🚨 So it is Bluesky for me now. Although decision has been in the making for a while I am now leaving X permanently (or at least until a more reasonable owner comes in) and will deactive my account there in a month's time. Let us make this site really enjoyable.

I'm back! Sorry to disappoint the nasty people who sent me abuse on here.

A key tool to discipline digital platforms is competition law. The EU’s Digital Markets Act tries to do just that. Now, the Commission achieved a significant win over TikTok. SARAH HINCK and JASPER VAN DEN BOOM analyze: verfassungsblog.de/bytedance-v-...
